The owner of Hirons is mad that they're planning to put in roundabouts on Franklin . As far as I can tell, his complaint about eminent domain is that the city might widen the sidewalks, extending into a portion of what is now the parking lot in front of Hirons. According to an interview with him last year , "He said the roundabouts are an unnecessary addition and things just need to stay the way they are currently." More information from a Eugene Weekly article from last year : John Hirons, owner of Hirons Pharmacy, says he is concerned that the proposed design will put the Market of Choice on Franklin out of business, and that the lot that Market of Choice and Hirons inhabits will be bought out and replaced by student housing. “How are people going to be affected by a food desert? A pharmacy desert?” he says. People in the neighborhood “want easy, safe access, and the city is taking that away.” However, Ron Rodrigues, executive vice president of operations at Market of Choice, says, “Based on the information we’ve received and the meetings we’ve attended, we don’t see any reason why the Franklin Boulevard project would impact our ability to operate or serve our community.” More on reddit.com

I always feel bad for the pharmacy people in line whenever I shop for groceries. There's always a long line, weird opening hours, I imagine pharmacists are overworked. Seems like it's a popular location with too much demand for their capacity? I've had some annoying experiences at Hirons pharmacy next door, but at least I was able to call them and lines weren't that bad (I imagine most people get lost in the trinkets on their way to the pharmacy section lol) More on reddit.com
