Budget: $300 (plus tax)

Flooring: Mostly low carpet with some slightly more plush stuff in the bedroom. There's tile in a few areas as well.

Additional concerns: I definitely have a dust allergy, so a filter is a necessity for me, and three short hair cats so hair gets absolutely everywhere.

I have no brand preferences, just have the credit available at HD and REALLY need a new vacuum.

If you don't mind shopping online, or the garish yellow color, I'd say this Carpet Pro model would fit your needs. It uses HEPA bags, and if you need the extra filtration, you can also get a HEPA post-filter too.
