I'm on Linux Mint with Chrome version 117.0.5938.62 and with it I seem to have lost new links opening in a new tabs. All links open in the same tab and I can't find the option to change that back.

It's got to be there somewhere. Any hints appreciated.

Doesn't seem to be anyone out there who can answer this, so I'll post my workaround. Make a home screen shortcut to "about:blank". Using the Nova launcher, you can change the name to "Chrome" and the icon to be identical, and just use that to launch the app.

Unfortunately it still doesn't do anything for new tabs though. I mainly use Adblock Plus browser because Chrome is ridiculously notorious for pushing Google content, and will continue to do so until they add more options for control.

If you're talking about from inside other apps (e.g. Facebook) opening links in their own embedded browser, that's a per-app setting unfortunately.

Previously, when you clicked on a link it would open it within the same tab group (showing along the bottom of the browser) which made it easier to navigate between tabs. Now links open in it's own tab. I've checked the setting and flags seeing if there was a way to revert back.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

No fix. LINK It's google being google. After doubling down on groups, which annoyed some people and delighted some, instead of leaving it as an option, they scrap it, but they half ass that, so leave it in some places but not others.

With Soul Browser you can open links from bookmarks, history, external apps, from search in new tabs by default. For regular links on a page you will have to select it by long tap and context menu.

This is an app based preference. There is no setting to configure it for all apps at once. Some apps allow you to configure it but mostly don't.
