It’s asking so it can decrypt iCloud data that was encrypted with that old passcode. If you don’t know it, your iPhone won’t restore keychain data that was stored from that iPad. It won’t lock your phone but you will lose any encrypted data that is trying to download, which may or may not be an issue for you. I noticed on the iPad, it's possible to change the Apple ID password using just the Device passcode.
Isn't this a security flaw? If I want the device to be unlocked by other people but I don't want them to be fiddling with my Apple ID password or install apps on their own, I can't do that.
On the phone it's stricter because you can't do this. Am I missing something with the iPad? How do people usually set this up correctly?
