Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.
In Edge settings, there are only options to set the Home page and the Start page, they have not provided a setting to set the 'New Tab' page in the Edge browser.
To set a specific page as the New Tab page in Edge, you will need to use an Edge extension like this one from the Edge Extensions page:

Answer from DaveM121 on learn.microsoft.comI had Edge set to just open google on a new tab but after an update it seems to be loading it's own rubbish news/weather page etc. I can't seem to find any options to put it back the way it was. Any help would be super appreciated.

I can't believe Microsoft won't allow you to set up what URL link you want opened when you open a new tab. How have operating systems and web browsers gotten worse. This is a basic setting that microsoft eliminated so we have to look at their garbage news and microsoft is trying to push you into using their search engine. No wonder people jump to chrome. Though chrome has google but at least that is better than BING.
Hi Shed-Boy
like the old Edge the new edge chromium has very limited (built in) options for the new tab.
however there are extensions available that will allow you to change the URL of the new tab page.
this extension will set the new tab page to Google.com
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/deta...
this extension will allow you to change the new tab to any given URL
https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/deta...
hope that helps, please let me know how you get on.
It would be great if Microsoft could install useful things like this right from the off rather than bloating all its programs and applications with stuff that does nothing for 99% of users and just slows down computers and uses up drive space and memory. But I guess we'll be banging our heads against a brick wall to get any sensible changes.
Sorry, but just as Chrome forces the Google homepage on a new tab, Edge forces the Copilot on a new tab.
Just use the address bar for your searches, and you'll always have Google.
To completely remove the Copilot, you'll need to use an extension, such as "New Tab Changer" or "Blank new page"
Workarounds without Extensions:
- add
google.comto your favorites bar, and useCtrl+Shift+Left Clickto open a new tab - Hit
Ctrl+tfor a new tab, then click on theHomebutton to go to Google.
By default, it looks like MS only allows to only change the ones you mentioned in the Edge settings:
edge://settings/search?search=default
But, there are extensions that allows you to change the new tab page search engine.
In the settings menu, I did figure out how to change the HOME PAGE but not the NEW TAB PAGE. Any help is appreciated.
