I have a small business and I am not that technically sound hence looking for an email address like [email protected] without owning a domain. Is there a way?
I joined a non profit organization recently. The president wants me to find out how we can get an email with our orgs name. I.e. [email protected]
We do have a website (through wix.com)
I tried googling but my tech terminology is bad and so I'd just end up confused.
Please help and thanks
So I have researched about self hosting your own email server such as Mailcow but it seems pretty divided on whether or not you should do it due emails potentially not getting delivered due to spam filters and such. So I'm kinda not interested in self hosting so I'm wondering what is the next best option to get my own email ideally for free but maybe settle for really cheap?
Edit: I have my own domain already.
Edit2: Thank you all! I have my domain with Cloudflare so I have tried their email routing but would like to be able to send from it too. I'll check out some other suggestions.
Edit3: Wow this got a lot of replies. Again thanks all for the recommendations. I haven't had a chance to actually check any out yet (busy weekend) but I will get to it.
Edit4: So I've had a little time to look at some of the options and it looks like maybe Zoho, onepoundemail or PurelyMail. They are both fairly cheap and around the same price. Anyone know how they compare?
Edit5: I ended up paying for Zoho for $12/year. So far it's doing everything I wanted and more. Very happy with it! Thank you all!!!
I have a domain but I would wanna avoid paying 15 euros per month to google just to make an email. What do you recommend me?
I've been putting off doing this for years, and now that I'm finally trying to set up my professional life it kinda feels like I've missed the boat. Everything I'm reading says you used to be able to do this with gmail, outlook, zoho and others, but now when I look at all those it seems you have to pay for them. To be clear, what I'm talking about here is just setting up an email address like "[email protected]." I already own and pay for the domain myname.me. All these services I check want to charge me around 10 bucks a month just to have my custom email address. I've never paid a cent for email in my life so that seems outrageous--plus I'm just trying to launch my career so I can't really afford it either.
Anyone have any suggestions for me? Sorry, I don't know a better place to ask this, but I figure someone here will know what the best option is currently.
sign up with google https://domains.google.com/registrar
$12 a year for .net and .com, $20 for .me
You can then forward out to a free gmail address and add an alias to your gmail account so you can send as that address.
Depending upon your registrar you can forward email out to a free gmail account, google just makes it easy.
That being said I thing google apps is worth it.
A paid google apps domain is worth $4.17 a month (annual plan)
Total excluding tax for a .me would put around $5.83 a month. You get 24 hour support, 30 gb support, outlook sync tools, tools to trouble shoot email, advanced policy settings and more.
Everything I'm reading says you used to be able to do this with gmail, outlook, zoho and others, but now when I look at all those it seems you have to pay for them.
Zoho still has a free plan. I'm using them right now to do exactly what you describe in your post, and I'm not paying them a cent.
Quite some years ago, Google offered free customized email with domain name for free, later on Google started charging fee.
Late 2023, Google Domains was sold to Squarespace, I am in the process of moving domain from squarespace to porkbun.
Maybe I should post this question before deciding domain transfer. I am not sure if it is possible to get free or cheap customized email with my domain name?
Hey everyone, I didn't know in which subreddit to ask this question so if there is a more appropriate one please forward me there. If this one is okay as well, I thought since most of you do a lot of Web development, you could possibly help me out.
What I'm in need of is a custom domain name for the emails for my business. What I've gathered so far is that I need to buy a domain and I should also have an email service provider connected to that domain?
I've checked out Google Workspace and it seems like it has everything except annual payment which I would prefer. Are there any other good options besides Google Workspace that would be simple to set up and would have an annual payment option. What would your advice be? Any help is appreciated, thank you! :)
I have a small business. I’m not interested in creating a website. Facebook is all I need. Was just wondering if there was a free service that allows you to creat a custom domain. Thanks for any help.
Anyone know how can i make custom mail domain and is it free f.e i dont want [email protected] i want [email protected]
This week I saw a post here showing how you can host your email with icloud for really cheap and it got me thinking about this.
What are some self-hosted solutions for email with your own domain and what are the costs associated with them?
Also open to non-self-hosted options like the icloud one.
Note: I don't know if this is the right subreddit to post in.
I've seen the emails like [email protected], but I'm not sure how they get it. When I search this online, all I get are things like How to get free email domain name with hostinger. I have programming experience, but just can't seem to figure it out.
Far too often I see people posting their gmail, hotmail or ISP email address on signage, business cards, vehicles, etc. This locks you in to a potentially costly and compromising situation if you decide to move, change ISPs or your service provider goes out of business. For a relatively low yearly fee you can get your own domain name and have it forwarded to any provider you like. Boost your company profile!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'd imagine many people here are using their own domain to host their emails.
I'm looking to start using my own domain for emails (personal use) and I have a couple of domains I could use ("first" and "last" refer to first name and last name):
firstlast.com
first.me
If I go with firstlast.com, what would be the best thing to put before the "@"?
[email protected]? This one is safe and professional but has redundancy.
[email protected]? I'm not sure how this comes across to people?
Or
[email protected]? This would be the shortest but I don't know how well the ".me" works with various services or how likely it is to end up in junk.
[email protected] looks weird to me.
Unfortunately, I have a popular surname so I can't get [email protected], and even the available uncommon tld's for last.tld are either weird or very expensive.
Hello friends!
Want to use a professional email address with your custom domain (like [email protected]) but don’t want to pay for Google Workspace? You can set this up for free using Cloudflare and Gmail. Here’s how:
-
Get a Domain – Buy a domain from any provider (e.g., Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.). Having your own domain adds a lot of professionalism to your emails!
-
Set up Cloudflare – Add your domain to Cloudflare for free DNS management. It’s super simple and will keep your domain running smoothly.
-
Set Up Email Forwarding with Cloudflare – Cloudflare offers free Email Routing. This lets you forward emails sent to your domain (like [email protected]) directly to your Gmail inbox.
-
In Cloudflare, go to Email Routing and create a custom email that forwards to your Gmail account.
-
-
Send Emails from Gmail with Your Domain – To make sure you can send emails from your custom address, set it up in Gmail:
-
Go to Settings > Accounts and Import > Send mail as in Gmail, and add your custom email. Configure it using Cloudflare’s SMTP settings.
-

Hello guys, so I've changed from gmail to protonmail and I *think* I want to step over to own domain.
Currently I'm using something like this:
[email protected] - Personal /Banking account
[email protected] - Gaming / Twitch / Steam etc account
I see a lot of people using custom domainst, but I have a some questions.
Is possible that someone steals my domain or get my email redirecting to them ?
Is the price of the domain going to be the same or higher ?
In protonmail can I do (imagine) 100 alias to the email or I need to pay more than the plus?
Is the whois privacy safe? Or do i need to cheat in the real information?
I've seen that some people get their domain hijacked by a company, is that easy to do with every domains? I'll be getting a .me
Is the only "disadvantage" is that we always have to pay it?
I have a small company that doesn't require any web presence, however I communicate with clients and I think it'll be more professional to have a real email [[email protected] instead of [email protected]]
I've worked for companies that provided me a company email that I accessed through gmail, which is amazing. I found this link through google. https://digital.com/blog/create-email-using-gmail/
is this the correct way to do it? Forward all emails from my company to my gmail?
Also I want to create a really simple, super cheap landing page just so when people click on mycompany.com it doesn't just go to nothing. Do you guys have any recommended, inexpensive ways to purchase a domain and create a website for someone with 0 website design capabilities?
Thank you!!
Edit: thank you for all of your replies!!! I am so appreciative. I didn't want to spam every single reply with a thank you so just one big giant thank you! I'm going to read through all the suggestions this week!
If you have a domain name for your business like site-name.com, you can use a custom email ID for sending and receiving emails for free. There's 2 parts to it:
-
Forward emails sent to a custom email like [email protected] to a personal email ID like [email protected]
-
Send emails from your personal email ID but the recipient sees the email as coming from [email protected].
Create custom forwarding address
Most domain registrars allow free email forwarding i.e. if you bought a domain from say GoDaddy or NameCheap, you can get emails to [email protected] forwarded to your personal email address. I use GMail for my personal email because I get all the features of GSuite for free (Email, Drive, Calendar etc.). I use namesilo for my domain because it's the cheapest domain registrar and has tons of templates (the UI is a bit ugly but it works much better!).
So I've added instructions on using namesilo and GMail. The actual UI and specific values of MX records may change according to the domain registrar you use but the steps remain the same which are:
-
Add the right MX records in the DNS management section of your domain provider
-
Configure the custom email ID and forwarding address you want to use
Detailed steps:
-
Update DNS records Go to the Domain Console for Domain Manager in namesilo and click on the 'Update' link next to DNS records

-
Add MX records
Find the Email Forwarding template and click "Apply Template"

-
Add email forwarding
Finally, go to email forwarding and follow instructions on this page reproduced below
You can configure email forwarding for your domain by going to the Domain Manager page and then clicking the envelope icon under the "Options" column.

To create a new email forward, simply scroll down to the "Add/Change an Email Forward" box. In the "Email" field enter in the email forward you would like to create. Let's say you want to use [email protected], then enter your-name in the empty text box.

It may take some time for the changes to propagate. It should not be more than 24 hours usually. You can send an email to your custom email ID an hour after setting up email forwarding to test.
IMPORTANT: Only after you have email forwarding working, you can configure GMail to send emails with your custom email ID.
"Send email as" in GMail
Setting up an alias in GMail allows you to use gmail to send emails as [email protected]. i.e. Your recipients will see this email ID and not the GMail ID. It is a simple workaround to get a free custom email ID!
-
Setup Gmail's Two-Factor Authentication
-
Create an app password. When prompted for Select the app and device you want to generate the app password for:
-
Select Mail under the drop-down for Select app
-
Select Other under the drop-down for Select device
-
When prompted for text input, enter a descriptive name like "site-name" and click "Generate" https://i.imgur.com/ZWNX2u8.png
-
-
Copy the password that is automatically generated and save it somewhere for now
-
Go to Gmail and under Settings > Accounts and Import > Send mail as, click Add another email address
-
When prompted for Name, enter the name that you want your email to be seen as "From" (e.g. Firstname Lastname)
-
When prompted for Email address, enter the email address with the custom domain you used above (e.g. [email protected])
-
Click Next Step to proceed https://i.imgur.com/enDCkzC.png
-
When prompted for SMTP Server, enter smtp.gmail.com and leave the port as 587
-
When prompted for Username, enter the portion of your Gmail address without the @gmail.com part (e.g. username if my email is [email protected])
-
When prompted for Password, paste from your clipboard the password you generated in step 3 above
-
Leave the radio button checked to Secured connection using TLS
-
Click Add Account to proceed https://i.imgur.com/9ZrKIGd.png
-
At this point, you will be asked for a verification code. Keep this window open.
-
Open Gmail in a new window and wait for your verification email to arrive (you will receive a verification code that confirms you are the owner of the email address you are attempting to "Send Mail As")
-
Once it arrives, copy and paste the verification code at the prompt you received in step 13
-
Once you've done that, go back to the email and click the link to "confirm the request". You need to do this step and the previous step for the email to be correctly configured. https://i.imgur.com/O0Kot3q.png
Done!

It may seem like a lot of steps but it won't take much time. I was able to do this in under an hour.
