So I recently arrived in Buenos Aires so I brought some cash as well as send myself some money through western union. This may or may not be useful but I noticed that they are currently offering fee free transfers for the first time transfers. With this offer, you can send yourself multiple transfers and pick it up when you need it. The offer does not seem to end after you send yourself one transfer but allows you to send multiple transfers. I think when you pick up your first transfer, the promotion no longer applies. I was not able to verify this but I was not able to send more fee free transfers after I picked up my first transfer. So with this, you can send yourself multiple transfers with the amount of $100, $200, $300 etc. Then pick up the cash when you need it. Also sending lower amount will be useful if you decide to go to a smaller branch that does not carry as much cash. Same applies if you are traveling and don’t want to carry as much cash. You can send yourself $500, $1000, $2000, etc. What you don’t pick up, you should be able to cancel and have it deposited back into your bank account. Obviously you should do your own research as your mileage may vary but I thought it might be useful for someone. Also if you’ve already made your first transfer, you could ask your family members or your friends to make the transfer and pay them back. Of course that comes with the caveat of bothering someone which might not be worth the hassle.
TLDR: Western Union allows first time transfers to send multiple transfers for no fee currently. Send yourself multiple transfers in smaller amounts and pick it up when you need it and cancel what you don’t pick up.
