r/WordPressThemes on Reddit: [HELP] Can I update PHP or Wordpress without hosting or cPanel details?
September 4, 2023 -

Trying to change a theme for a client (first client) and when I import the theme it just makes the whole site white and nothing visible in preview or when I activate it.

It’s running an old version of PHP and Wordpress but it should still meet the theme requirements. However I’m wondering if one or a few of the required plugins aren’t working as they need an updated version of PHP?

So can I update PHP without the hosting details?

Thanks!

While you can't directly change PHP settings within WordPress, you have a few options: Create a custom php.ini: Some hosts allow you to create a custom php.ini in your site's root directory. Use .htaccess: You can add PHP directives to your .htaccess file. WordPress plugins: Some plugins allow you to modify certain PHP settings. Always back up your site before making changes to these files.
