For our van IKEA beds above in pics, I successfully used spray adhesive to add a leftover 5" strip onto the end of a regular twin 75" memory foam mattress to make 80", then covered the mattress with a mattress pad and I can't tell at all that it is cobbled together.

Hello, does anyone have experience with the Malm Storage bed that lifts up? How was assembly? What kind of mattress do you use? Does it squeak? Or am I better off getting a similar bed elsewhere..

I've had one for 10 years, it's amazing! It doesn't squeak and is incredibly solid. The lift mechanism works perfectly and holds up a fairly heavy combination spring/foam mattress. I can't imagine ever having a normal bedframe again, having direct access to all that storage is a game changer in a small apartment. Also, assembly was easy for me, as with all IKEA, just carefully follow the instructions and don't rush. I disassembled it and moved it to a different apartment about 8 years ago and reassembled it with no issues.

Installed the single version for a teenager. Installation is a little more fiddly than the non storage version. And the lift mechanism gets a little getting used to. But it hides a stores a lot of ridiculous teddy bears. So worth every penny.

Oh no. Not to burst your bubble but it sounds like they either built it wrong or used the wrong vocabulary. See if there’s videos on YouTube on IDANAS storage bed (even an assembly video at the end would show how they pull the drawers out). Source: worked at IKEA for 7 years (just left in September). Had bedrooms as one of my departments so I’d prop the under bed storage all the time and never had issues opening it (but maybe I just instinctively knew from working there so long. Have been a tasker (taskrabbit) for IKEA assembly for four years

I have one already, thank god. And I think it’s crazy they aren’t available. I don’t have room for the drawer storage style. Many people don’t. Sorry I can’t help, but this is nuts, IKEA.

Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a new Queen sized Malm lift storage bed for my short term rental as i need additional storage space for extra linens and towels.
Does anyone with the bed have any anecdotal thoughts on the sturdiness of the bed or how well it has held up?

The bed is very sturdy, ours is 5 years old, no issues. But I really need to throw out the stuff we stored there 5 years ago when we bough it and never used since.

We have had a superking one for over 10 years,we are both very overweight and it’s still fine and the lifting mechanism is still OK. I have fixed an under-cabinet LED light strip under the ledge on my side so when I come to bed late, I can have the light shining only on the floor on my side to not wake my partner. I would invest in some soft corner protectors for your shins too, I catch my legs regularly!
