Yeah so this might be a little late but I fixed my problem like this:

  • Go to Settings/Preferences
  • Select Project Interpreter
  • And press the + button on the left side

That + sign

  • Search for requests
  • And press Install Package

I am running: Windows 10 Python 3.7.1

Python Http Request not working in Pycharm IDE - Stack Overflow
When I ran my code standalone in the terminal, this second import was never carried out and the code ran smoothly. To fix I replaced all urllib3 get requests with the requests library (https://pypi.org/project/requests/). I also tested by making all requests utilise urllib3 and the code ran fine too. I'm not sure WHY using both doesn't work but this has fixed my error.

r/learnpython on Reddit: Can't import requests?
March 15, 2024 -

Hello, super beginner in python, just watching some LinkedIn Learning courses. Using VS code.

For a webscraping project using a weather API I'm supposed to use requests for getting the data, but it just tells me:

"requests" is not accessedPylance

Import "requests" could not be resolved from sourcePylancereportMissingModuleSource

I have tried a couple of things: installing a previous version of python, making sure I only have one version, checking I have PIP installed, re-installing the python and pylance extensions in VS code, installing all the PIP versions inside the scripts python folder, restarting and re-opening everything. Tried to set interpreter in VS code at it gives me an error? ( command python.SetInterpreter not found ) Clicking python in the lower right corner of VS code doesn't give me more python options. Nothing so far.

What's going on?

Are you sure that you are installing the requests package in the same active Python virtual environment that VS Code has probably set up? A terminal / command shell / power shell window that defaults to the Python base installation will install the package there rather than in the virtual environment. Virtual Environments Given the thousands of packages (libraries, frameworks, etc) out there, you can see that if you are working on several different projects, you can end up installing a vast range of different packages, only a few of which will be used for any particular project. This is where Python virtual environments come in. Not to be confused with virtual machines. Typically created on a project-by-project basis. Install only the packages required for a project. This helps avoid conflicts between packages, especially version complications. Most popular code editors and IDEs, including Microsoft's VS Code and Jetbrain's PyCharm, offer built-in features to help to start off new projects and create and activate Python virtual environments. You can create a new Python virtual environment from your operating system command line environment using, for Windows, py -m venv venv or, for macOS / linux, python3 -m venv venv which creates a new folder in the current working directory called venv (taken from the last argument, you can use a different name). You then activate using, for Windows, venv\Scripts\activate or, for macOS / linux, source venv/bin/activate the command deactivate for any platform will deactivate the virtual environment and return you to using the base environment. Multiple Python versions In addition to the above, you might want to explore using pyenv (pyenv-win for Windows), which will let you install and use different versions of Python including alternative implementations from the reference CPython. This can be done independently of any system installed Python.
