iPhone 11 Pro Camera Review — Travel Photographer - Austin Mann
August 29, 2021 - If you are a pro familiar with shooting long exposures, you'll immediately realize something is fundamentally different about how the iPhone 11 Pro collects light in Night mode. From what I understand, the way Night mode actually works is the camera captures a bunch of short exposures and slightly longer exposures, checks them for sharpness, throws out the bad ones and blends the good ones.

r/iphone on Reddit: So is the iPhone 11 pro camera actually better than the 14 Pro?
October 25, 2022 -

I’ve seen multiple posts that they can’t stand the pictures that the 14 Pro takes because it’s overly processed and that even the 11 Pro is leagues better in terms of picture quality. Is this actually the case? What do you guys think?

October 1, 2023 - It also seems that the iPhone camera app detects if your iPhone is mounted to a tripod (because of the motion sensors built into iPhone). If iPhone 11 pro thinks it's attached to a tripod, you can set a much longer exposure time then when you're using it handheld.

October 21, 2019 - Another unique feature of Apple’s new Immersive UI is its uniquely precise zoom control for both photography and videography, coupled with remarkably smooth zooming throughout the iPhone 11 Pro’s zoom range. Multi-camera phones typically show artifacts when switching between their differing focal length cameras during zooming, but as part of its “cinema quality” video experience, the iPhone 11 has made those transitions almost invisible.

September 17, 2019 - ... There are numerous improvements to recording video. All of the iPhone 11 Pro's cameras (front and back) can record video in 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second; older iPhones only let you shoot at 4K60 on the rear cameras.

A combination of the faster, sharper glass and improved processing makes photos from the Tele camera noticibly better with a nicer, natural bokeh (background blur). The Tele camera works great in Portrait mode. Another plus is that the better low-light performance of the iPhone 11 Pro Tele means that the iPhone is less likely to switch over to the Wide camera in low-light and shaky conditions and digitally zoom by 2x.

And there are other improvements like better selfie pictures, better video quality, etc. But the three cameras an the Night Mode are, in my opinion, the two best photography improvements. ... The other major improvement in the iPhone 11 Pro is increased battery life.

r/iphone on Reddit: WTF happened to iPhone camera quality (coming from 11 Pro)??!
February 12, 2025 -

About two years ago I was ready to finally upgrade my old iPhone and the latest at the time was the 15. I bought the 15 Pro expecting to use it for good photography, and couldn’t help but notice that the pictures seemed worse than on my girlfriend‘s 11 Pro. One day we took a picture side-by-side and sure enough, the 11 Pro blew the 15 Pro out of the water in clarity, sharpness, etc. So I downgraded to a normal 15 as I didn’t care about the camera that much anymore and that was that. Well, a few days ago we went into the Apple Store to upgrade her 11 Pro to a 16 Pro, hoping they fixed it. Not even close. I couldn’t stand it and I snapped two side-by-sides to show the staff. Please have a look at the pic. Left is obviously the 16 Pro, right our “outdated” 11 Pro. One of the staff members tried to convince me that it had to do with lens switching but I explained to him that at the same FOV there shouldn’t be such a loss in quality and we basically went back-and-forth at different zoom levels, and the 16 Pro simply could not keep up (it did of course have more zoom, but we’re talking about comparing apples to apples FOV-wise.)

I am just baffled and have been now for years. Apple, the golden child of imaging and digital graphics, lost the photography throne to Samsung and others long ago. (When we want really good photography we use our Galaxy S20 Note Ultra.) Can anybody explain this to me? I had the Apple staff go over certain settings with me, hoping maybe there was something that could improve things, and nothing worked, even forcing 48MP. How/why have they let this happen? How does their 5 year old model beat everything coming out today? WTF??!

Daring Fireball: The iPhone 11 and iPhones 11 Pro
The iPhone XS can capture still images and video that the iPhone X cannot. That’s exactly the case again, this time with the XS in the “last year’s phone” spot and the 11 Pro in the “this year’s phone” spot. It’s an impressive year-over-year camera improvement one year after an impressive year-over-year camera improvement.

And the quality of the Night Mode images is class-leading. They have plenty of detail, they are sharp enough but not over-sharpened, the colors are excellent, the contrast is top-notch, the exposure is very balanced, and overall, we loved every single picture. We should also note that not a single photo came out blurry while shooting in Night Mode, so even if you take just one photo - it should be great. May 25, 2021 - In almost every example in this test I prefer the look of the images from the iPhone 12 over those taken on the iPhone 11 Pro. Details are clearer, shots are brighter and more vibrant, and Night mode images have seen huge improvements.

October 20, 2020 - It is capable of achieving better image quality in certain situations than standard flash-off mode, and therefore earns the iPhone 11 Pro Max some extra points in the Night category. Color rendering is generally pleasant and noise levels are lower than for pictures captured at default settings. However, if the camera detects faces, it seems to apply a different kind of image processing that renders detail on faces noticeably soft.

June 1, 2021 - According to Apple I was told I got the cheaper version of the iPhone 11’s and that’s why my videos look blurry. 🤦🏻‍♀️ ... What I did and was helpful and fixed the photo issue was putting the camera setting on “Most Compatible” format · Go to-> Settings-> Camera-> Format-> Most compatible · But for recording great quality videos, you should again put it on “High efficiency” · But, This problem is so wierd!!!

iPhone 11 pro camera quality vs 15 pro | MacRumors Forums
September 29, 2023 - The 14 Pro and now the 15 Pro telephoto, while still not as good as main cameras, are much more better and more versatile. The area where there is the least difference (and most disappointment) from the 11 Pro to the 15 Pro, in my experience, in the ultrawide. I find that occasionally I get interesting perspectives/angles for things like architectural shots, but in general I don't think the quality of these shots is as impressive. ... I've been wondering how the iPhone 11 pro camera compares to the entry level iPhone 15.
