Stopping solely putting furniture on or near the walls. While I think a slightly larger rug may be better overall, a lot of this can be fixed with some minor changes: Move all of the furniture (rug and table included) forward about two feet, creating a pathway behind the couch over to what I assume is a balcony/porch. Move the chair to the other side of the couch so it isn't blocking this new pathway. Move the coffee table forward so that it's off-center on the rug and move the couch forward so that the front two legs are barely on the rug. Once all this is in place, take a step back and reassess.
