We’ll be using IntelliJ to edit policy files and run the git operations to commit and push your changes. Navigate to the JetBrains website and download the latest version of IntelliJ IDEA. The link should automatically download. You will be taken to a page indicating the download has started.

December 28, 2025 - The free version has been combined with ultimate into one IDE, where you unlock extra features with a license. The open source community edition still exists, but isn't packaged by jetbrains anymore.

May 19, 2026 - Previously, IntelliJ IDEA was offered as two separate products: IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition and IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate with extended capabilities.

January 30, 2026 - As we announced back in July, starting from this release (2025.3), there is one IntelliJ IDEA, replacing the separate IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition and IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate to keep things simple and convenient. All the functionality of the Community Edition remains free for non-commercial and commercial use.

August 31, 2025 - PyCharm is still free and in fact they give free users more features than they did with community. I'm not sure what would be different here. ... IntelliJ CE" and "IntelliJ Ultimate". In the new system, there is only one download: "IntelliJ". The new download is more similar to CE than Ultimate. Users who need to buy Ultimate features will obtain them through JetBrains published plugin(s) available on the JetBrains plug-in marketplace.
