When you set up Kali (I have Kali running here - and in a Virtual Machine), it will ask you to create a password for the root account. Do that and that will be the password. There is no preset password.
Try setting up the Virtual Machine again and this time, watch for the root account creation process and set up the password of your choice.
Once running, create a regular account and, if you wish, set it up as an admin account:
sudo useradd -m YOUR_USERNAME
sudo passwd YOUR_USERNAME # (asks you to create a new password and do that)
sudo usermod -a -G sudo YOUR_USERNAME

Actually kali Linux doesnt give you anymore the root access with 'root/toor' you have to unlock the root account like this: sudo passwd root Then you type your password to use the sudo command, and you choose the password for your root account

May be you have installed it in virtual machine so
- May be not installed correctly try to reinstall but I suggest to install it as os not vm ware.

You are asked to create a standard user upon installation of Kali. If you did not customize it then, the default user / pass is kali / kali (assuming you installed 2020.1 or later). If you can't get into your fresh install of kali VM because you forgot the user / pass, I'd just reinstall kali to the VM, setup a new user / pass, and remember it.
