Hey! This is my Keychron q2 pro build that I bought used for fair price of 80eur. Switched keycaps, switches and made a few mods to the board. Right now spec are:

  • switches: HMX Xinhai

  • keycaps: gmk clones 8008 + minimal

  • no foam at all

  • PC plate in stock, but ordered alu plate to test Very nice clicky sound that I absolutely love.

r/Keychron on Reddit: WHat's the difference between Q2 and Q2 pro?
December 22, 2023 -

I ordered my first mechanical keyboard: Keychron Q2, and, I received it just today. In the meantime, I was doing some more research, and came across Q2 pro. As far as I understand, it is the same as Q2, with bluetooth as an additional capability.

I am thinking, if Q2 and Q2 pro are the same, except for the wireless capability, it would probably better to get Q2 pro instead. I have two questions:

- Does it make sense to exchange it to Q2 pro?

- Does Keychron actually allow it? It got shipped from China all the way to the UK, i.e. expensive shipment.

Thank you for your advice!

r/Keychron on Reddit: Q2 Pro vs Q2
December 26, 2022 -

I just got my Q2 Pro. Here’s a shot next to my regular Q2 (the Pro is the silver one). I got it for the banana switches and KSA keycaps.

This is my 5th or 6th Keychron and the first to have an issue out of the box. When plugged in and with the switch set to Cable the keyboard was spewing random characters including control characters. It worked fine in Bluetooth.

I took it all apart and removed the tiny daughter board with the Cable and Mac/Win switches and USB C port. All the solder joints looked fine so I’m thinking the Cable/Bt mechanical switch wasn’t seated properly on the electronic switch soldered to the board. When I put it all back together it worked fine.

I think the cases are almost identical other than the extra switch and the cutout on the back for the Bluetooth antenna.

I like the look of my retro Mac keycaps I have on my regular Q2 but the profile is flatter than I like. The KSA profile is much more comfortable for me.

Hi! I'm currently thinking of buying a Q2, but I'm undecided between the Pro and Max variant. In my eyes the Pro seems to have better specs, but the Max is having a more expensive price, making me think it's the successor of the 2. Does anyone have any detailed info about the differences or which one is the better option?

r/Keychron on Reddit: Keychron Q2 Pro - switches option
June 10, 2023 -

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to purchase a Keychron Q2 Pro (QMK/VIA Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard) and could use some advice. However the Keychron K Pro series switches only available there (options are Red, Brown, and Banana switches) or barebone option.

In case of getting a barebones version and choosing my own switches. I've previously touched in a shop the Keychron K4 with Gateron Red switches and liked them. I'm torn between tactile and linear switches. My friend recommended the Gateron Oil King Linear Switch Set. Saying that Oil King is the best on the market. What are your thoughts on these or any other recommendations?

If I go for the Keychron K Pro series, which switch would you suggest - Red, Brown, or Banana? Considering I am a programmer and work in an office environment, I'm looking for something that's comfortable for long typing sessions.

I also saw some complains about KSA keycaps profile. So guys, who has some working experience with The Q2 Pro please share your thoughts.

This will be my first mechanical keyboard, and although I'm new to this world, I want to build a great setup. Any advice or experiences you can share would be immensely helpful!

Thanks in advance!

February 14, 2023 - I’d like the Zoom but it’s nearly impossible to get in my region and the Q2 barebones is $80aud off it’s RRP. I have switches and Keycaps but as my first all metal build, I want it sounding great. ... I haven't tried it. But if you want, I could set up a few keys tonight and try it out. Also make a sound video with my SHURE Mic for you, if it helps you? ... No, bc he didn't ask me or come back at me. ... Aloha,

I’m coming from a GMMK Pro which is a decent board, but I’d love to have wireless when possible and these 2 layouts speak to me.

I’m bouncing back and forth over when the lack of F keys would be missed or not. Currently, I barely use them save for alt+F4 when in windows, but that can be bound to something else. How has the switch to a 65% been for those that have switched? Does the lack of F keys bother you now, or have you grown used to it?

A side question really… but I enjoy tactile switches, and I’ll be coming from Glorious Pandas. How do the K Pro browns or the Gateron Pro browns feel/compare? I’m not a huge fan of the thought of lubing, so I would be using stock unless I have someone lube them for me. I’ll probably swap the Pandas over, so the barebones will more than likely be sufficient for me.

To those that have the Q1/Q1 Pro or Q2/Q2 Pro, what’s the lip size? Coming from the GMMK and I’d like to compare to see if I’ll need a wrist rest.

Thanks!

r/Keychron on Reddit: Keychron Q2 Stock Review
September 13, 2022 -

I have heard a lot of hype around Keychron keebs, so I dove in head first and bought one. I got the Keychron Q2 in a Navy Blue colorway with Gateron G Pro Red switches. Here is my review on the keyboard:

Keycap Aesthetic: 9.5/10: The Navy Blue keycaps look great with the keyboard case.

Backlight Color and Modes: 9.5/10:

Foam: 10/10

Build Quality: 10/10: The case and keyboard feel have a really nice quality and typing on it feels like typing on marshmallows.

Feel: 10/10

Weight: 6//10: Aluminum case feels very heavy and can be frustrating to adjust.

Switch Options: 7/10: You are to choose between Gatereon G Pro Red, Blues, and Browns. Though not a lot to choose from, any of these switches stock still sound amazing.

Hotswapability: Yes: I mean it's hot swap, the only minor complaint would be about socket pins having to be on the top which is not usual for me when trying to insert switches into the socket.

Overall Stock Sound: 10/10

Stabilizers: 9/10: The Gateron screw-in stabs are pretty decent. No complaints at all.

Overall: 9.5/10

Overview: I love this keyboard in every way and if you would like to start getting into custom keeps this is the way to go. No matter what switch you put in this bad boy it sounds astonishing. My main complaints are in regards to A: The weight has an aluminum case and is frustrating to hold or move around. It does imply that the keyboard is sturdy and secure though, and won't wobble around. B: The case has so many fingerprints, I mean put your finger on the back of the keyboard for 1.2 seconds and there is already a big fingerprint in that area. (I am probably over exaggerating about that) but this keyboard is actually so nice I really do have to find something to pick on about it. Anyway, Totally recommend this board mainly for the looks, sound, feel, and hot-swap ability!

Hello I just recently purchased a q2 pro and I am using the foam that came in the packaging as well as a tape mod. I unplugged the battery since I will use it wired and after I had cut the foam I had to press down in order to get the case screwed back on. I was just curious are there any other q2 pro owners that used the packaging foam in their board and will it hurt my board due to how thick the foam is?

r/Keychron on Reddit: Choosing Between Keychron: Q2 Pro, K8 Pro, K6 Pro
November 9, 2023 -

Hey everyone,

I'm currently considering the Keychron Q2 Pro, K8 Pro, and K6 Pro keyboards for my office setup. I'd love to hear any suggestions or thoughts on these models. Also, I'm open to considering other options if you have any recommendations.

My plan is to buy a barebones keyboard and then customize it with Tenyu switches and Cherry profile keycaps. Which of these models would you suggest? My main concern is the weight, as I'll be bringing it to the office (2-3 times a week). However, if the typing experience significantly improves, I believe the extra weight would be worth it.

Looking forward to your insights!

I considered wireless ones, cause do not want to have any cables on a desk.

r/Keychron on Reddit: Case differences Q1/Q1pro and Q2/Q2pro
February 22, 2023 -

Hey all,

I'm planning to get a Keychron Q board. Most likely one of those mentioned in the title.

However, after seing the video from keybored on the Q2, I'm curious on the differences between them.

In the review he statet that the Q2 has a steel plate and a thicker bottom case compared to the PC plate and filmsy case of the Q1. He spoke of it as kind of an evolution.

Thinking further that way, why shouldn't the Q1 pro have these upgrades too?

I know that the pro and non pro version have different keycap profile, KSA is higher IIRC.

My question summed up:

Are the non pro and pro versions apart from the wireless different?

Thank you all in advance!

Are the non pro and pro versions apart from the wireless different? Summed up - Keychron has zero consistency. Check this out: Q3 Pro Q3 K3 Pro K3 S1 The Q3 is standard profile, the K3 Pro is low profile. The K3 looks like a K3 Pro but it's actually very different (different electronics, non-standard/incompatible keycaps (!!) and you can get it with fancy pants optical switches (cant' even get that on the most expensive Keychron...). The Q3 Pro looks like a movie prop. I included the S1 because it's basically a low profile version of the Q3 but with the same keyboard layout and same keycaps as the K3 Pro. Are you confused yet? This post has been edited several times because I kept having to make corrections. They're all great* keyboards but the branding leaves a lot to be desired. (* except the K3, it's a terrible keyboard. But it's also arguably the best keyboard Keychron sells if you like optical switches... ugh) Most of differences aren't obvious at a glance, and some of them even depend what options you choose (e.g. the S1 is hotswap with an RGB backlight but the switches are soldered on with a White backlight. Why? Dunno. Makes no sense). Assume they are different and compare very closely before buying. Be sure to compare the individual models including your keycap and backlight choices. If in doubt, ask here or on Discord. On the plate - Keychron uses steel, brass, aluminium, PC, and FR4 plates. All five options are available as an optional (and very cheap) upgrade for the Q2 and they are very different to type on. The Q2 Pro is a brand new model and doesn't have any plate options for sale yet but likely will soon (and it doesn't come with the same plate as the Q2, as one of the differences). You can also buy plates elsewhere, and make them yourself (Keycrhon provides the plate design files for nearly all their keyboards). I wouldn't choose based on the plate, since you can change it.

I don't know why he calls the Q1's case "flimsy". It's definitely very solid. The differences between Q1 and Q1 Pro, and Q2 and Q2 Pro, are quite small. I think in fact that the upper case is an identical, part, with just a different bottom case (to accommodate the Bluetooth slot). The default kitting is a little different - my Q1 Pro came with PC plate by default, whereas Q1 came with aluminium (with PC as an optional upgrade). Generally, the PC plates satisfied reviewers more ("why use a gasket mount if you kill the feel using a stiff metal plate"). I like the PC, I think it's a better default, so I can see why they moved to that on the Q1 Pro. Each model they release generally has all the upgrades from previous ones. They work iteratively improving their design. The only complication is that they tweak the design mid-cycle as they go through a fresh round of manufacturing for each model, so you get very slight differences between Q1/Q2/Q3 etc. They all have the same quality bar and capabilities though. Even the old Q1 version 1 (the first Q series) with its "pingy" case is totally fine with a little bit of tape between the case halves - not an issue to anyone with 15mins of time to fix it.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Is it worth getting a mechanical keyboard like the Keychron Q2 Pro in 2025?
December 8, 2024 -

I've recently purchased the Keychron Q2 Pro, a wireless 65% mechanical keyboard with hot-swappable switches and full customization via VIA.

With the rise of magnetic keyboards featuring Hall Effect sensors and other advanced technologies, I'm wondering if it's still worthwhile to stick with a traditional mechanical keyboard in 2025.

Should I keep my Keychron Q2 Pro or switch to a magnetic keyboard? Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
