Hi, i replaced my x240s trackpad with a new one from a x250. after the replacement i get an 3-3-1 beep code and cannot boot anymore. when i unplug the ribbon cable, system boot without any issues. when i connect the old x240 trackpad (i damaged the touchpad surface but the connector is fine, the same beep error comes up.
Because of this i bought a new trackpad ribbon cable (part no. 04Y1660) but the 3-3-1 beep still appears. Are there different trackpads of x250 (i heard there are alps as well as synaptic) or have anybody an idea for me what to do?

Hi guys,
First post here so sorry if I accidentally break any rules!
My X240 has this weird issue where it'll do a 3-3-1 post beep and refuse to start up, which I have read is RAM or mobo related.
But... if I open it up, take the RAM out, blast the RAM socket with compressed air and put it all back together, it seems to boot fine and work for a couple of restarts, until it goes back to the 3-3-1 code.
Is there anything else I should try that might offer a more sustainable solution? I love this little thing but I really can't justify taking her apart all the time just to get her to boot!

Use an eraser to clean the RAM gold contacts till they shine. Careful you don't 'wipe/knock' any small SMD parts off the module, stay strictly on the gold-part! Remove any debris before putting the RAM back in.

Today while installing a new trackpad (3 button) onto my x240 I encountered this beep error code and a blank screen. If anybody could help me solve this issue I would be grateful, Thanks!

This error means either problem with RAM or motherboard. I would advise to remount memory module in DIMM and if this won't help, reinstall old trackpad. If then it boot, then it seems, that this one particullar 3-button trackpad might be not compatible with your X240.

AFAIK you need to reuse the original X240 flatcable, not the X250 one that might come with that new trackpad.

In changing the X240 "upgraded" 3 button Trackpad to the original "clunkpad" I managed to damage the ribbon cable but ALSO the motherboard. I know this as a new ribbon cable still made the dreaded 1-3-3-1 beep. I got hold of another cheap refurb X240 device and put that motherboard into my machine - and 100% worked.

July 30, 2019 - X240 needs low-voltage (1.35V, DDR3L) RAM, yours doesn't seem that type. On pic-1 that cable goes partly to the -pad, partly to the fingerprint reader, and partly somewhere I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it. (I have three X240 machines, none with that cable).

April 20, 2019 - Remove the RAM from one slot, then try to boot. If it beeps 1-3-3-1, swap the RAM module in the same slot and try to boot. If it beeps with either RAM module, that slot is at fault. Do the same in the other slot. Have you got the correct RAM, PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)?
