Best Bed Height for Seniors’ Safety and Comfort
September 20, 2025 - Replace the frame altogether with one that is lower such as a platform frame. Hospital Bed uncomfortable and seeking an alternative
When I was sent home after a long time in the hospital, I was set up with a standard hospital bed and a mattress that was horribly uncomfortable. We tried a couple of mattress toppers and then we upgraded to a better quality hospital bed mattress None of that helped and I was still so uncomfortable. Finally, I got rid of the hospital bed altogether and replaced it with an adjustable bed and mattress from Sam's Club. It is such a dramatic improvement! The only downside is that the adjustable bed has no rails, which wasn't an issue for me. I hope you are able to find a more comfortable solution! More on reddit.com

r/Mattress on Reddit: Ideal bed frame for our future elderly selves
November 1, 2022 -
We are in the market for a new bed frame and mattress. Ideally, we would love the look of a platform bed but we no longer want to be near the ground. We're finding that our guest bed, which is a regular mattress and box spring combo, is more comfortable to get in and out of but we would prefer not to have boxsprings. Any recommendations for a higher platform bed? I've looked at the Thuma-any other recommendations? The height of the guest bed I mentioned including frame, box springs, and mattress is about 27". We don't have to be that high, but I would prefer a modern platform look. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance.

Depends on how fancy you want it to be.. KD Bed Frames makes their Nomad frame with optional 18" legs (if your mattress is 12" this would put you right at 30" which is pretty nice for us). Their frames are SOLID. Very basic though, we love it, stained ours and everything. Again, it's built like a tank, just a bunch of solid poplar.
