Type it in slowly and count the “•”s to see if they match. If not, plug in a keyboard, it may be the internal board. You can also reset the password from the recovery partition, but you will have to unlink and relink your iCloud account if you do. There are apple help articles you can find that will walk you through it. Once done, you may lose saved passwords and whatnot, but you’ll be able to get all your files back. Lastly, if your Apple ID is linked, you can use that to reset the password without losing everything. If you have that turned on. Good luck. Answer from Guardian1030 on reddit.com

Correct Password not working - Apple Community
February 5, 2022 - Macbook login - wrong password but it is correct for sure Hi, it's the second time I've got crazy experience with login to my Macbook. This morning, I tried to clean my keyboard and as a result computer turned on few times, also incorrect, random passwords was entered few times. After cleaning, I tried to log in with my normal password. AND it was INCORRECT! Also, there's no chance it was changed by mistake!! I had to reset the password, thankfully there was option to do it. Last time, there was not such an option and I had to reset my whole computer!!

There aren’t any buttons to reset the pass or anything either. What should I do? is there any way to view password for max through my phone or something ?

This may sound crazy but try entering your password backwards. I had a similar problem and then noticed that when entering, it was resetting the cursor placement to the first character every time. Only ever happened once.
Macbook updated to 15.5 automatically last night and now my password wont work
Had this issue too, it was very annoying. I knew that the password was right, but it took me more than an hour of trying everything imaginable, changing the password several times etc, and continuously failing to log in, to finally figure out that during a reboot it had randomly changed my keyboard layout to the one I've never used and had not installed myself. MacOS will sometimes not accept a correct password!
I’ve had keyboards (external and internal) go bad and start missing keystrokes. My MS natural at the office appears to be doing that now in fact. The way I figured it out was to watch the password field as I’m entering it, and I noticed that sometimes I’d hit the spacebar but a new dot wouldn’t appear. Doesn’t happen right now on the internal keyboard, or if I type more slowly on the external. More on reddit.com

Are you typing your AppleID password instead of the local password for your Mac?
They are different things.

Do not lock it by repeatedly putting in the password! “Reset it using your Apple ID” After entering your password up to three times, if you see the option to reset using your Apple ID, click it. If your Mac immediately asks for your Apple ID, enter that information and click Reset Password. If your Mac restarts, follow the steps in the previous section, “Restart and show password reset options”. What happens next depends on how your Mac is set up. If you’re asked to create a new keychain to store the user's passwords, click OK to restart your Mac. If you’re asked to select an admin user, you know the password for, click “Forgotten all passwords?” If you see a Reset Password window with the option to Deactivate Mac, click Deactivate Mac. Then click Deactivate to confirm the temporary deactivation. Enter your new password information, then click Next. (If you see multiple user accounts, click the Set Password button next to each account name, then enter the new password information for each account). When the password reset process has been completed, click Restart. This is all from the Apple website. Best of luck! More on reddit.com
