Hello. Starting our primary bath remodel this week. Changing from garden tub to freestanding tub, so we're shopping for tub fillers. Wayfair has $1500+ options, Home Depot has $200+ options. I know which I prefer, but wife thinks this is a "you get what you pay for" situation. Should I be concerned about $200-300 tub fillers from Home Depot? Thanks!

your wife is correct. Even though the big box stores carry name brands, that does not necessarily mean that they are getting the finest quality from that brand. The difference in price comes down to the quality of the components inside of whatever you're purchasing. Moen has a low end that uses plastic inserts while their higher end faucets will use brass fittings. You never know what you're getting from Wayfair. You might believe you're purchasing a higher end faucet because these companies make products at different levels of quality. You could get the old bait and switch happen to you. I would recommend going to a bath showroom such as Ferguson or Wool and speak to a sales representative.

Remodeling contractor here: Quality floor mount tub fillers are not inexpensive. You will be out $1k or more for a Delta or Hansgrohe (highly recommend, as will any good plumber) You do get what you pay for with these. You don't want filler issues down the road. Also, floor mount installation is not as straightforward as a wall mount. As for the freestanding tub. You or your plumber will definitely want one of these to install it.
