Microsoft 365 Personal vs Family Subscription
Microsoft 365 Family without AI for $99.99 a year is still available
How does the Microsoft 365 Family plan work with regard to OneDrive?
PSA: Check your family subscriptions - Microsoft is changing Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions to a different product.
John C, please cancel your subscription and turn off recurring billing (it will remain active until it expires in May), then join Family subscription.

Hello John C,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well.
With Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you can share your subscription benefits with up to five other people. You do this by sending each person an invitation or by adding them to your Microsoft family. After each person accepts the invitation, they can sign in (using their own Microsoft account) to www.office.com to install Office on their devices and access their own 1 TB of OneDrive storage.
If you have a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, you can upgrade to Microsoft 365 Family subscription by purchasing Microsoft 365 Family subscription from Microsoft store. Your wife can cancel her subscription and join the Family subscription once her subscription expires.
When you purchase this Family subscription, your Personal subscription will automatically change to Family subscription and whatever unused time you have left on the Personal subscription will be added to the Family subscription, you won't be issued refund for Personal subscription when you upgrade.

I forgot I had OneDrive full of data and had to go back and signup for another month of Microsoft 365 Family at $12.99. I had canceled my subscription two weeks ago. I renewed for a month, went back to cancel the rebill and it offered M365 Family with AI for $99.99/year. Altogether it billed me another $107.49.
I went back to cancel that rebill to avoid paying $129.99/yr + taxes next year. Clicked 'Cancel Subscription' and when the page loaded it offered to switch to monthly at $12.99 but right below, highlighted in bright yellow, was the 'LOWER COST WITHOUT AI' option. M365 Family Classic $99.99/year for 6 people, and a link to 'Buy at $9.99/month'
Elsewhere someone said switching like that will tack a year of M365 Family, so in March 2026 I would get billed $99.99+taxes for service without AI until March 2027.
Does each person have a separate OneDrive or is there only one OneDrive for everyone? Can the other people access my files?
In case it is separated, how does it work regarding the storage space? I mean, how much storage space does each person have?
Thank you in advance!
TL;DR:
Bought AU$139
Microsoft Family 36512-month subscription in SeptemberGot a "copilot" feature prompt in Word app today (November), checked the portal, my plan is now AU$179 and includes AI credits. I can't turn off the copilot button in the apps.
Checked the subscription portal - there's a AU$139
Microsoft 365 Family Classicplan that has the exact same features as the original plan I bought. I can't move back to it now, I can only move back to it at my next billing renewal (in September 2025). Contacted Microsoft support and everything.I'm stuck with the copilot bullshit popups indefinitely, even after disabling connected experiences in registry, the icon is still all over the UI, it just brings up errors now.
Microsoft support forums acknowledge they're changing people's subscriptions here.
Bonus fun fact:
The Register reports IBM are being sued by investors for fraud after bundling unnecessary/unwanted AI products into mainframe sales to inflate sales numbers. I wonder how Microsoft investors will react to the above?

Publishing the wayback link for before and after. Note these are en-au pages - be mindful of redirects to another region's page.
