r/DesignMyRoom on Reddit: Dining Table Placement
February 18, 2025 -

We’ve lived here for 3 years and still can’t figure out the best place to put a full sized dining table. The most obvious place is centered in the first photo but it would completely cut off and block the main entry into the home via mudroom in a way we wouldn’t be able to live it (we’ve tried it temporarily). Can’t push something against the wall to the right because of a radiator. There’s a decent amount of space between the mudroom entry and the kitchen, but it’s too narrow to place a table and have walking space on both sides. Really wanting to upgrade the tiny round guy and have a space to host family so any suggestions are appreciated!

Tip: Place one edge of the table flush with the wall to save space. If you have dining chairs with arms, the space between the table and floor will determine whether the arms can tuck all the way under the table.

r/DesignMyRoom on Reddit: Not sure how to set up a dining area in this space!
December 17, 2024 -

I just moved into this space and the dining room area is a little cramped due to me putting the blue Billy bookcase in the corner of my living room. The first pic shows what both rooms look like next to each other. The second pic is for reference for types of other furniture I have in the room. The third pic is the black 52” round pedestal table that I thought would be a good size for the space but looks a little larger than I expected. The chairs on the left of the table were supposed to go underneath the black circle table but the arms go too high and don’t slide underneath the table so I’ve just placed them under the island for now. I really love the chairs but not sure if they would be too bulky for the space.

My initial questions:

  • Should I get rid of the blue bookcase to shift the living room more to the right and allow more room for the dining area?

  • Should I opt for a smaller dining table? Maybe a 47” circle table or even a small rectangular table?

  • Given that the dining chairs currently require a higher dining table to push them underneath, should I return them or find a table that would make them work?

Would also love any thoughts and feedback on how the room decor tie in together or if it looks cluttered at all!
