I had a notification that a Windows Update was needed and so I scheduled it to install late last night(around 1am) and when I woke up this morning my monitor(which is a Vizio tv) is stuck on the "Please wait while we install a system update" screen. It has been this way since I woke up at 7am and possibly even longer considering when the update took place.
Windows said it was a Firmware update and usually they never do this or take that long. Most times updates are done by the time I wake up.
I did sort of restart my PC and it booted back up to an update screen that said it was 30% complete, did a restarting screen and now it's back to the please wait screen.
I'm genuinely afraid to touch it at this point...
UPDATE: Just jumping in to say that my updates are not automatic, I do have to approve them. I just saw this one and didn't think anything of it. Also, I dunno if it matters but I can definitely hear the fan on my PC running(it usually does this if it's loading something) so I dunno if that is an indicator of it doing anything or not.
UPDATE.2: I turned it off and back on again and got it to boot up. It went to the update progress screen went from 34% up to 100% and then windows started up as if nothing had happened. Everything seems to be going okay so far, but if anything changes I will update again.
No thrilled with my Alienware that is only 3 months old. Got a blue screen of death and after going through first level support they promised to have 2nd level support call me back which they never did (that was over 3 weeks ago.) I ended up taking it to a local shop and it appeared to be a loose cord. It still occasionally boots up into bios with random errors, but then when I restart it come back up normally.
Anyway, now my latest issue is the "My Alienware" won't update. When I try to open it, it says "update available to continue using My Alienware, please update the application. It's worth it." So I click on update, click yes on the popup screen asking if it can makes chances to my computer and it says "installing", and then it goes back to the "update available" screen.
This is the 4th alienware computer I've bought. I've never had problems with them before. but this latest one is a lemon and their "helpdesk" service is useless.
So I got my Alpha today and all was fine and dandy.. so then I take a break and turn it off, come back it's updating windows.
Now it says "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes Don't turn off your computer"
And it's just been doing this for the longest time.
Hi all,
Went apply update and shutdown earlier today and my x15 r2 has now been stuck at this screen for several hours? What's the best course of action here? Do I leave it? Do I power down and restart?
Any recomendations? Maybe because both updates came up at the same time? I forget what the intel one was exactly. Both updates performed using alienware update. It happened for a good 15 mins so I held power button and it shut off. Going to call Dell tomorrow. I've tried to get into bios but no luck.
FIXED.
just needed simple bios reset. has been good ever since.
Alienware M15 R4 - Over the last few days, I’ve had issues with Alienware Update and Support Assist.
I am now getting this error with Alienware Update:

Basically, it will not perform a scan. The only changes I’ve done were the Windows 11 March update a few days back and the upgrade to the 1.16.2 BIOS update. I have tried reverting it back to the 1.15 BIOS, but it still does the same thing.
Also, SupportAssist no longer works. When I try to run any of the options (driver update, hardware check, clean files, etc), it kicks back an error basically saying it can’t continue because another process is running. This has been going on longer than the Alienware Update issue, which only seemed to start today.
I have also fully uninstalled both programs using Revo Uninstaller Pro AND even deleted all leftover files. I have since re-installed Alienware Update and it still does it. I have not yet re-installed Support Assist. Figured if the Alienware Update wasn’t fixed, then neither would Support Assist. 🤷♂️
Alienware Update runs on my R13 Desktop just fine. So I know it’s not a server issue or anything…both systems are on V 4.8.0.
Thanks in advance for any help on this!
