In a science fiction setting where characters are able to travel through alternate universes/dimensions what would one call our universe? I've considered names like the Mundus or Overworld, but I don't know if these are the best names you could use or if they're even good names. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know.
I am creating a low-tech science-fantasy world. It carries aesthetics of exploration, mystery, an extremely low-tech atmosphere, and the frontier of space. It is a flourishing universe teeming with life, with most territories largely unconquered and untamed. Many forgotten civilizations have abandoned their monuments and technology throughout the stars, their memory forever waiting to be discovered by any curious traveler.
I have toyed with calling my universe the Backcountry
Naming things has always been a downfall of mine and I've been building a world over the past few years. I have tons of things planned out for designs and history but I've been stumped for any good names for the universe and the separate species inside.
So, do any of you have some good naming rules you use? For character names, I typically turn to colours in different languages but I felt like it wouldn't be overly fitting for the universe name.
