according to flhsmv, new registration is $225 + plate $25 so around $250.
Dealer is asking $895 for dmv fee. Someone in other post suggested DIY, How would one go about that?
You can't drive the car to DMV without a temp plate.
some also said you can't buy the car without a plate to transfer to. dealer is required by law to register the car during a sale.
and It looks like you can't get a temporary plate if you don't have a bill of sale. not to mention dmv usually ask for 2-3 day in advance to schedule an appointment.
so it's the chicken and egg problem. how do I get a temporary 30 day plate before buying the car?
Searched the sub but found nothing recent. We’re moving from out of state. So many people in the moving groups talk about the exorbitant cost of new registration but FL’s DMV site looks like it’s $225/vehicle. Wanted to ask here if I’m missing a piece or are people just outraged over this cost?
Sorry if this is dumb , but could someone please explain this to me… I’m in North Alabama and have been shopping around for a used car. I have emailed a dealer in FL because of a pretty good deal on the SUV I’m looking for and asked they send me the OTD price. I feel like after the fees the deal isn’t so good lol. They have the most doc fee of anyone I have spoken to in AL or TN and they also have a $474.25 Tag Fee added on. I asked the lady if that was suppose to be the charge we would have in AL “title/registration fee” and she said yes. The only deal is that fee in AL and pretty sure in TN is $16.50. When I asked her to clarify, her exact response was “By FL law we have to do all the registration and tag work to our FL DMV and they the one that will communicate with AL DMV. This fee is not tax” … I’m still a little confused … so I will pay their fee and not pay for registration when I register in AL for my tag at the courthouse/DMV? Any help with this ?
