It seems like the bulk of every lists consists of movies released after the year 2000, with a few token classic like the Godfather or something.
Expand your horizons! If you supposedly don’t like black and white movies for whatever idiotic reason you don’t even have to go back that far. The 60s to the 80s were loaded with great stuff.
Any single year in the 1970’s blows out everything that’s came out in the last 20 years. For example I just put in a random year in google: 1974. We’ve got Texas Chainsaw, Blazing Saddles, Chinatown, The Conversation, Young Frankenstein, Godfather Part 2. And that’s without even digging into it.

Don't stop at the '60s. There are so many great films from before 1960. The bigger issue I see is the complete lack of foreign films. The only non-English language films that make it into people's top 10s tend to be either anime, Kurosawa, or Bong Joon-Ho. Nothing against any of those, but they seem to be all people here watch for non-English films.

I get the sense from this subreddit that A LOT of the users are young-ish. Frequently I see people posting things like “I just created an account because I just got into movies” or “what should my 200th movie be?” I always think to myself “how have you only watched 200 movies???” The answer is that they are young. I’m in my mid-40’s and have logged over 5200 movies, so my Top Favorite All Time list looks way different. I also used to work at a movie theater for years and years and I worked with a lot of young people, and when I talked to them about movies, I always got the sense that for them, if it wasn’t made in the last five years, it might as well not have been made at all.
