Troubleshooting OOBE Bypassnro Not Working
February 25, 2025 - Ensure you're using the correct command syntax (oobe\bypassnro). If it still doesn't work, try an alternative like OOBE\BYPASSNRO, restart the process, check for spelling errors, or consider other advanced methods such as editing the registry.

March 5, 2022 - When installing Windows 11, if you want to get around having to connect to the internet and login with a MS account, you can enter the command prompt and run: oobe\bypassnro I always thought oobe was the command and \bypassnro was an option switch, and I found it completely odd there was no space in there.

Since according to AveYo (thanks for this) this is only temporarily integrated into Windows 11 by Microsoft, one can assume that this command will not work for much longer. I truly hope it remains.

oobe\bypassnro

Then you can reactivate the Internet connection and add a password to the account, as well as make all other settings.

Alternative Workaround that should remain feasible, more trouble than the simple above command:

If the Internet is disabled, you start the reinstallation of Windows 11. You get to the window: "Unfortunately you have lost the Internet connection". From here it starts. Replace "User Name" with whatever you wish to use for the account:

Press Shift + F10. The command prompt opens

net.exe user "User Name" /add

net.exe localgroup "Administrators" "User Name" /add

cd OOBE

msoobe.exe && shutdown.exe -r

Windows will now restart and start with the other settings until Windows 11 is installed correctly with a local account.

When logging in, "The user name or password is incorrect" now appears.

Simply press OK and select the right account at the bottom left of screen. You should have one for Administrator and one for whatever name you used as "User Name" above.

Lets hope the simple oobe\bypassnro stays, as I have used both methods, and the first is by far the easiest.

Workaround for Microsoft blocking BYPASSNRO script to setup a local account in Windows 11 | IdeasAwakened
March 30, 2025 - You could also simply unplug your network cable, or prevent an internet connection by other means (like taskkill /f /IM oobenetworkconnectionflow.exe) and a local account setup was an option. Most recently, you could use Shift+F10 during the setup process and type OOBE\BYPASSNRO and the setup process will allow you to continue setup using a local account. According to that insider blog posts, this option will no longer be available in future Windows 11 releases. If you try the OOBE\BYPASSNRO command in the newest Beta build, you will get the error Command not recognized.

r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: Windows 11 VM setup: unable to type OOBE\BYPASSNRO command
January 19, 2024 -

Hi all, I am setting up a VM on my Unraid server and I am trying to bypass the internet requirements using the command prompt OOBE\BYPASSNRO . My issue is I am on a UK keyboard and windows thinks it is a US keyboard despite me selecting UK in an earlier step, this means I can't type \ as I don't have a key where the \ is located on a US keyboard. Any help to solve this is appreciated.
