GPT-5 (Minimal) was performing quite well early on and even took the top spot for a moment but has dropped to #5 in the ranking on Design Arena (preference-based benchmark for evaluating LLMs on UI/UX and frontend).
Right now, the 6 of Anthropic's models are all in the top 10. In my experience, I haven't found GPT-5 to be clearly better at frontend tasks then Sonnet 4 or I've found it to be personally worse than Opus.
What has been your experience? To me, it still seems like Anthropic is producing the best coding models.

Been doing this 25 years, I’ll use OpenAI for writing, Claude handles my code. I don’t care about percentages in charts, in my stack it crushes everything.

For me gpt5-high is (usually) best. It’s slow, but it’s succinct and exact in its changes (and knows when NOT to change too)

I am genuinely curious on how many here believe OpenAI is hiding a big model so they can use it when they feel threatened or if they need permission from the government because of how big it is.
But with Claude 3.5 Sonnet, it makes me think that OpenAI may be the Hare in the Tortoise and the Hare fable. They acted all tough and went blazing fast initially but got cocky from winning so much they failed to keep up.
So what are your guys views?

I do think OpenAI is ahead but honestly the drama and fail to actually release things is making me hope that Anthropic, who IS releasing things, passes them. Hard to trust a company that acts the way OpenAI has been.

Could be either or, OpenAI has either got a massive upgrade of a model and doesn’t want to release it before the election, or the competition is truly gaining ground. There is some evidence though that the secretive hypothesis is true, OpenAI didn’t want to tell us what Q* was, the Chinese did ( https://arxiv.org/pdf/2406.14283 ) they didn’t release SORA, two other competitors did, and they haven’t lived up to their promise of live chat with the model ever since the ScarJo incident. I’m going to stress that this is the reason why I never wanna let corporations have a monopoly on this kind of thing, it’s exactly why open source needs to exist. OpenAI has profit only motive at this point and I fully believe they are Microsoft’s plaything now. They don’t want to create a proper super intelligence anymore, they want products marketed as tools. Maybe my last paragraph will turn out to be wrong in time, but from what I can tell, they’ve gone full private and closed source in favour of executive orders. I don’t know if they have GPT-5 sitting in the bleachers right now, but if they do, it’s just more of their walled off antics that they’ve been doing since last September.

I'm so used to OpenAI from years before ChatGPT that I have barely interacted with Gemini or Claude.
My understanding is that Claude is good at more natural writing styles, and Gemini is good at long contexts.
For OpenAI, I've started using `o1-preview` almost exclusively for any task, unless it requires vision then I will revert to `4o`.
I'm wondering what everyone else's decision matrix looks like.

At the start, I was going back and forth with OpenAI and Gemini, but once I started using Anthropic, I use it for everything. Recently I am finding Perplexity (not a model) really good for my day-to-day tasks but maybe go back to Anthropic every now and then. Perplexity is essentially using all these models to generate the best answer for you and I love it!
