I'm creating a world for my DnD campaign. And I would love it to be a complete world which I perfectly understand (a daunting task, I know, we will see how I do). Therefore I wanted to start at the beginning...
And that's where the problem arose. The beginning of the universe is somewhat incomprehensible for us mere humans. Even if The Big Bang is a thing it does not describe where all the stuff comes from. That's what I'm interested in.
The easiest solution is to say that everything always existed and avoid the question. Then the inevitable conflict between nothing and something (everything) begins.
Now is the time to ask the question: "What is the opposite of The Void?"
If we have a fancy name for the nothingness, The Void, what is the fancy name for the everything?
I have found my answer but I am curious what you guys can come up with.
Theory: Void is much more than a binary opposite to Light, and it effectively breaks Aspect Duality Theory.
What should I call "Void" in a game that has both fantasy and future elements?
ELI5: What's the difference between 'space' and the 'void' outside the known universe?
What is the opposite of The Void?
How does the adjective 'void' contrast with its synonyms?
Some common synonyms of void are blank, empty, vacant, and vacuous. While all these words mean "lacking contents which could or should be present," void suggests absolute emptiness as far as the mind or senses can determine.
// a statement void of meaning
In what contexts can 'vacuous' take the place of 'void'?
Although the words vacuous and void have much in common, vacuous suggests the emptiness of a vacuum and especially the lack of intelligence or significance.
// a vacuous facial expression
When can 'vacant' be used instead of 'void'?
In some situations, the words vacant and void are roughly equivalent. However, vacant suggests an absence of appropriate contents or occupants.
// a vacant apartment
It seems one of the more accepted theories in the fandom is that of aspect duality - it's the big one, for BKEW. However, I noticed something in another comment thread - Void does not conform to this. While his aspect duality page uses a statement by Calliope as near-confirmation:
UU: the void aspect is fascinating, thoUgh.
UU: its heroes preside over the essence of lack, or nothingness. the obfUscation of knowledge, or its oUtright destrUction.
Everyone sees this: "the obfUscation of knowledge, or its oUtright destrUction", and beelines to Void is opposite to Light, in context of Roxy's ability to obscure the session.
However, the very same quote by Calliope throws a wrench into the entire aspect duality theory. She said "its heroes preside over the essence of lack, or nothingness." That right there is the exact opposite of space - space is matter, existence, etc. Void is the lack of essence, pretty clearly putting it opposite to Space. This seems to be only confirmed further by Roxy's God Tier powers - she steals nothingness from material. If Void were only the opposite to Light, this doesn't make any sense - her power should be stealing obfuscation from information.
So, it seems that Void is opposed to both Light and Space. This doesn't fit at all into duality theory; in fact, aspect relations seem much more complex if it doesn't fit neatly into opposites. I'm still working on what this means - I feel like there's a lot more to this than simply Void being an anomaly in the aspect relations.
So, thoughts?
EDIT: I'm throwing in a link to what I said below in response to u/allwaysnice, since I'm starting to go into a more complete idea of the relation between some aspects and how they relate to eachother.
EDIT 2: As many seemed to have missed, this post primarily addresses BKEW's Theory of Aspect Duality.
