Haven't read it myself but generally the dummies books aren't too bad. That said it appears that the book doesn't cover any of the details of options pricing. If you want to trade options you really should understand the mathematics. The single biggest problem I see in people's thinking around options is not thinking probabilistically. Black Scholes may seem intimidating at first ,but the basic ideas behind it are fairly simple and worth putting the time in to learn. Volatility is everything about options and I suspect most people here don't even know how to estimate historic daily volatility from price histories. You need to understand the assumptions about Black Scholes, why they are not correct and how to interpret volatility smiles to get a better understanding of risk. Basically if you don't understand how to price an option yourself, how can you tell if the current prices of options are aligned with your thesis? For example I think COIN is a company destined for failure in the long run, but if you look at the options prices I'm not alone in thinking this, so just buying far out DTE puts on COIN is not a great strategy, despite it being aligned with my thesis. I find another common pattern here is people run strategies just because the overall strategy is align with their thesis but they never ask "is my thesis already baked into the price?" The best book that covers the math fairly gently while also covering all the basics of options quite well is Sheldon Natenberg's Option Volatility & Pricing. Another classic, more quantitative approach (though still not too heavy on the math) is Hull's Options, Futures and Other Derivatives (it's very pricey but just get an older edition). Since you’re into reading here’s what I would do and did: Sort this sub by best of all time, skip the meme posts (there are a lot), and read the real posts. They’re probably pretty good. Any term or idea that you don’t inherently understand upon first read, write it down or put it in a word document Research every term or idea until you understand it. In that word document from before, use each term/idea as the header to a paragraph/chapter to where you write down all your learned research This process should lead you to find power users here on Reddit. Follow them, find where they post, and repeat this process in other subs ( r/pmtraders as an example of one path this should lead you). It will also lead you to other sources you enjoy that aren’t on Reddit. Now if you’re really good: Compile all this information and make posts here and elsewhere to help others. I’ll admit to not doing this is good as I would like but I try to at least comment to help others when I can. More on reddit.com

An option is a conditional derivative contract that permits contract buyers to either buy or sell an asset as a predetermined price. To make it happen, the sellers charge the buyers an amount called a "premium."
If the price of the asset becomes unfavorable for the options holders, the option will expire worthlessly. This can make sure that the losses are not above the premium amount. However, the option sellers (also known as options writer) takes on a greater risk than the option buyers, which is the reason why they charge the premium.

A couple years ago I wrote a series on this sub about how to sell options profitably that the community loved. I mentioned continuing it and thats pretty much what this is - an archive of everything I know about options and option selling.
