I had a mini mass messenger bag and just scored a critical mass at the thrift shop for a solid deal in a cute color. I was stoked to see it had a buckle on the shoulder strap for stabilization, but i cannot for the life of me figure out where the clip goes. It does not look like there are any buckles broken off. Can any slayers help me out? edit: I don't think i'm an idiot... but sure do feel like one.

The black hole 32L is too big to be a personal item by pretty much any airline standards. It probably will fit under the seat if underpacked, but it's a big bag, and carrying it and the MLC fully packed would be not fun. Do you need 77L worth of space? You'd be better off taking either the MLC or the 32L as your carry-on, and packing a packable duffle (or buying a duffle in Japan) that you could use as checked luggage on the way home. As with all bag sizing questions though, you should start with your packing list and figure out how much space you really need. Personally I'd be fine for indefinite travel with the 32L and a small body sling. More on reddit.com

Hello y’all, I recently bought two black hole bags, one being the 45L MLC and the other the 32L pack. I’m traveling to Japan this year in Nov, for about two weeks. And I’m planning on using the 45L as my carry on and the 32L as my personal item. Basically the 32L will be empty and I’ll use that as a storage for stuff I bring back. But I’m trying to figure out if the bags aren’t going to be too big when they are full, especially for what I’m trying to do. I’m looking at videos of the 32 and it starting to look kinda big 🫠 I’m basically stuck with the bags I cant return them a friend who works for Patagonia got them for me at a insane price so I’m ok keeping them. But just wanted to get feedback back before I’m at the Japan airport with two bags that are too big for what I’m trying to do. Sorry I haven’t traveled in ages. So this whole bag thing is new to me, I know they both meet carry on requirements. But I just wanna make sure I’m going the right route.

Total overkill. Use the 32 liter as your overhead bag. I would add a small crossbody to use as a personal item, like the Tom Bihn Packibg Cube Shoulder Bag or Daylight Briefcase—- something hands free carry while wearing a backpack. “Boarding Bags” are personal item sized. I would avoid hand carrying anything. If you can’t restrain yourself, take a truly packable duffle or buy something in Japan.
