I found this specific adware on my laptop called "PC App Store" I have only ever used this laptop for school and I've had it for less than a year. I am a computer science student so I download a lot of files from professors and from github links they send us. Besides school I use it for YouTube and Twitch but no fishy pirating websites. Is it possible my professors could've accidentally sent us virus's? I am not very well versed on virus's and adware.
Extra information ig:
- I use google chrome and use ad blocker extensions that I use on my main PC as well and have no issues on it.
- the laptop uses windows 10
In order to delete "PC App Store" for windows, you need to search in your hard drive for "fa_rss" Make sure to tick "all subfolders" too. Now you need to take ownership of it, look here if you don't know how to. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-take-ownership-files-and-folders-windows-10 If it doesn't work, go to task manager, search for it and then delete it. Empty Recycle Bin and PC App Store wont open at all.
For the past 3 days ive been trying to figure out what is wrong with my pc after accidentally installing pc app store. I uninstalled it 2 days ago but my pc is even worse and when i go on certain apps like nzxt its like im using a 480p monitor, if i also play games like fortnite when im loading up and in game it looks like its not rendering resolution properly. Ive used avast, norton, malwarebytes and spyhunter 5 is the only one to pick up something and its saying i have over 50 pups and 70+ malware. Ive heard spyhunter is malware is that true? Do i have loads of other viruses like spyhunter is telling me becuase nothing else is.
Help is appreciated

Hello everyone, my first time posting here. My dumb self accidentally installed a virus tonight called PC App Store. I’ve watched a lot of videos and read a lot to try and get rid of it and it went well actually. The pop ups are completely gone and I disabled this and PC Auto Updater (which is apparently linked to it) in task manager. However, I still have one problem that persists. PC App Store still appears in my installed apps and whenever I go to uninstall it an error message pops up blocking me. Is this something i should be worried about or have I done enough to stop it?
Thanks in advance
I recently accidentally downloaded PC app store and it made chrome crash and when i reopened it it was defaulting to yahoo search even though I had google search set to default. I did a system restore to three days ago and then chrome would not open.
I reinstalled chrome and was able to go into my search engines and delete a bunch of extra ones below the default which I wasn't exactly sure how they were overriding google as my default but that seemed to fix that issue.
I ran a scan with malwarebites and it detected a PUP and Malware allegedly so I quarantined those. Ill attach an image showing the files.
It also corrupted my chrome extensions one of which was my password manager. I saw some people saying that PC App store is just adware but I was just wondering if anyone had any input or if I should do anything else. And if I should leave the files in quarantine or delete them.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I managed to download the PC App Store through a linvertise while trying to download steam on a new computer. I immediately factory restarted the computer so I think I should be safe. As far as I can tell PC App Store is just adware, and not an actually malicious program, but I am concerned that my laptop may have something that could survive a factory reset like a rootkit or bios infection. Can anyone confirm for me that PC App Store isn't that malicious, and that I'm safe after a factory reset?? I am concerned as some websites refer to it as simple adware, while others claim it brings Trojans and rootkits along with it.
Do I need to do a full system wipe? This laptop is pretty old and I dont have anything on it I really need.
So basically go into control panel and click on pc app store. You might find a message asking for Un_a to have permisson, CLICK YES! Once you have done that, go to uninstall a program and click on pc app store. If u cant do that, try go into your files, local disc and USERS. Then, find the pc app store and delete PERMANTLY! Check if its gone by clicking on the windows tab and wait a few secs to see if the McAffe thing pops up. Hope it helped you guys as much as it helped me!
I accidentally installed PC App Store trying to get blue stacks and it infested my computer with Malware I deleted it except the browsers still hijacked and takes me to this strange page any support because I’ve tried to remove it through Google settings and it hasn’t worked?
Hello all.
I have just purchased a new laptop, and I was told to download and install Teams to use for upcoming telecommunication meetings.
I did my search, downloaded and installed the file...but the bloody thing disappeared and isn't in my start menu as the installer claimed.
This is my first time using Windows 11, so I searched on how to find the missing app, only to discover that it's really some sort of trojan?
How do I get rid of this thing--it doesn't show on Start, and it only seems to exist as a blank folder in my user directory.
This laptop (MSI Thin 15 B12VE) has come with Norton For Gamers Antivirus pre-installed. It doesn't find any issues with the downloaded file, nor in the directory. I have never used Norton before; this is actually my first computer since 2016, so everything is a bit different than what I remember.
Thanks so much in advance.
Hello people of reddit, I was trying to download Technic launcher for minecraft which is stock full of adware and malware ads. I tend to think of myself as not that stupid, however when I went to click on download they were all large and flashy and I couldn't find one that actually looked legit. So monkey brain went ooga bunga me see download and put malware on my computer.
Naturally my first move was to search through the archives of reddit to try and find somebody before who had figured out how to remove this malware. And I found a a lot of posts, but after emptying my recycle bin and restarting my computer almost 20 times still none of the malware scanners or people who claim to have found the source code have actually found the base program that keeps replicating itself whenever I finally get rid of it. It and the malware just keeps coming back. So far I've found like 15 locations and every time I think I'm finally gonna get rid of it. The malware comes back.
Thus I turn to you wise people of r/computerviruses I need help please it isn't affecting my performance or causing popups which is really weird, but it is changing my chrome browser (I'm on opera GX and it doesn't affect opera). Whenever I try and search something up on chrome it goes to yahoo and it also changes the ui of chrome tabs. After reinstalling chrome it has fixed the issues with the changing of chrome tab ui but it still redirects to yahoo. I believe this malware is called DSR as that is what it advertises in the new tabs.
Microsoft settings recognizes it as an app but none of the anti virus softwares I have downloaded can find it and I can't find it after manually searching. PLEASE HELP ME I AM GOING INSANE OVER THIS.
I finally got tired of my pc being slow the other day, so I went looking for free software to speed it up. I found PC App Store, promising to manage all of my data into organized folders to give me the speed I wanted (or something to that effect). For free. I downloaded it. THAT was a stupid idea. Immediately, my pc slowed down even more, and my mouse, too! I wound up doing a 3 hour reset and recovery to remove it. That worked. Do not download PC App Store!
I think this is a virus and I can’t get rid of it. I seemed to pick it up when I downloaded a transcription software. I deleted anything McAfee on my computer and I deleted all of my cookies. It just pops up every so often and I have to x it out a few times before it goes away. It is so annoying. What do I do?
I couldn't delete this the conventional way, so I stopped the task in the task manager "Watchdog of PC APP STORE" and then found the folder under C > Users > me > PC App Store and deleted that.
Now looking on Reddit it doesn't seem that process truly deletes it, and there may be additional files they installed? Is that true, or did I actually completely delete that program?
Edit: I ran a trial version of Malwarebytes and it quarantined 28 additional files linked to the PC APP STORE. How do I delete these quarantined files? There are no options within the trial version to do so (from the looks of it, I clicked everything).
Also, is there another thing I can run aside from Malwarebytes to check if there's anything left of the PC APP STORE?
I accidentally downloaded it and it changed my google to some random browser with nothing on it and made my mouse and cursor out of sync I deleted it instantly and now I’m fac resetting as I’m scared as I don’t know anything about viruses. Please could someone tell me if this will completely remove it and what the virus actually does
i downloaded steam on my computer through "pc app store" which downloaded its software itself as well onto my computer without my permission. it seems to be some kind of third party app store. whenever i go to uninstall it, a pop up comes up saying "un_a.exe would like to make changes to device" and i don't know if that is also a virus. its giving my computer pop up ads that i cant close and i just really want it gone, does anyone know how i can get rid of it?
Today I accidentally downloaded pc App Store and I uninstalled it and the ads went away but now my chrome is messed up and I cleaned up chrome and yahoo and bing is still there and it is on my other laptops as well if someone knows how fix this please dm me Thanks
