r/techsupport on Reddit: Microsoft Store is Removed. How Can I Reinstall It?
February 14, 2023 -

Hello. Today I had my computer formatted and installed Windows 10 Pro. The version is 10.0.10586. The Microsoft Store didn't open, I got a screen saying "try that again". I tried to solve this problem, I tried a few solutions and then I typed the following command into the command line and hit enter:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

After doing so, the Microsoft Store was removed. I tried to install it again but I couldn't. Help me.

Easiest way to reinstall, that no one has mentioned. BTW, found this just now due to my struggle of getting it back and not wanting to factory reset in hopes it brings it back. Follow these steps: if you can manage to get the Xbox app installed onto your PC, open the Xbox app, click on your GAMERTAG/NAME, go to SETTINGS, go to General. There you will see a list of dependency apps that make the Xbox app function properly. Among the list is Microsoft Store, install.

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type "cmd" and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open an elevated Command Prompt. In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter: Get-AppxPackage WindowsStore -allusers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} This command will reinstall the Microsoft Store app on your system. Once the command has completed, close the Command Prompt and try opening the Microsoft Store again. If the store still won't open, try running the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Store Apps > Run the troubleshooter. If the troubleshooter doesn't resolve the issue, you can try resetting the Microsoft Store app. To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Store > Advanced options > Reset. If none of these solutions work, you can try reinstalling Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool or a Windows 10 installation disk. Make sure to back up your important files and data before doing so. Note: It's important to be careful when using PowerShell commands, as they can have unintended consequences if entered incorrectly. Make sure to double-check the command before entering it into the Command Prompt.

I'm making this quick little guide to help the hundreds of Windows 11 users who may find the MS store missing on their operating system. This guide is particularly useful if you tried to install MS store with powershell commands but nothing worked.

Step 1: Open the Xbox app. If you don't have the app then you can just quickly download it on your browser after a quick Google/Bing search "Xbox PC app"

Step 2: Go to settings

Step 3: Click on General settings tab (left second tab on list)

Step 4: In upper right of screen (window) there will be a list of system bundles that are missing. Microsoft Store will be an option. Install it.

Step 5: Open Windows settings and go to Apps tab, then Apps and features (very top) scroll down list your welcome Store is back

r/Windows11 on Reddit: Microsoft Store missing from fresh install
September 23, 2022 -

Edit: RESOLVED, but not solved (ie, don't know why this happened), but I found this article while searching and it was exactly my issue:

The true fix for missing Windows 11 Store App. - Microsoft Tech Community

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an observation of a bug during a fresh install, not a request for support.

I've just completed a full fresh install of Win 11 Pro 2H22. Again, this was a fresh install, not an upgrade.

When I search installed apps, I can see that Microsoft Store is not present. When I search from the start menu, I can see that Microsoft Store is not present.

Weird, right?

One more thing I noticed was in the Get Started app, it presents some suggested apps to install and a link to do so by opening the Microsoft Store, but that also fails.

Now please, don't suggest that I simply run some Powershell command or go to the app settings and try to reset or repair the Microsoft Store, it's not possible. Those are not possible because the Microsoft Store is not installed.

I'm actually not here to see if anyone can necessarily help me, it's more of a PSA or word of caution.

I'm not sure why this is the case and I didn't make any election other than defaults during the installation process.

Did anyone else trying a Win 11 2H22 fresh install face this?

I’m running Windows 10 version 22H2

I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. My Microsoft store is gone and I have tried nearly every solution online and none of them have worked. In my app settings microsoft store isn’t there, and when I try to open it through the windows search bar it’ll pop up but when you try to open the app nothing happens. Every method I’ve tried will end up giving me a notification that the app store is downloading but then it goes away without installing it back. I’ve tried the xbox app and it won’t download. I’ve tried troubleshooting and all it says is there’s apps not working. I’ve tried the Powershell commands and nothing works. If anyone can help me out in any way I would appreciate it a lot

Seems like the missing a system bundle. If you are only missing the store app, you can try fixing it in a couple of ways. Run powershell as admin, and then run this command: Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} This should install the windows store for all users. Or you can open the run dialogue box and run this tool: wsreset.exe If you try those, and it doesn't appear, a reboot might bring it back. If it still doesn't you may want to try SFC scannow in command prompt as an admin. If you have a question let me know.

r/sysadmin on Reddit: How to re-install the Windows Store
October 19, 2021 -

I have a group of Windows 10 workstations that previously had the group policies "Disable All Apps from the Microsoft Store" and "Turn of the Store application."

Now because of reasons these machines need the Microsoft Camera app installed. After turning off the GPO's, I'm still unable to install either the Windows Store or the Camera app.

I've tried the following

  1. running wsreset.exe

  2. removing and re-installing all store apps with "Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode}"

  3. Downloading and installing with the appxbundle for the camera app from MS Store for Business

  4. Trying to reinstall the Windows Store with "Get-AppXPackage WindowsStore -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}"

  5. Removing and re-adding the user profile

Short of reimaging the machine, does anyone know another way to reinstall the Windows Store.

Hope I understood correctly. The store app is dependent on few other apps, It's unclear wither the other apps are installed or not. Open powershell as administer. copy and paste this script. $AppName = '*Store*' Get-AppXPackage $AppName -AllUsers | % {Add-AppxPackage -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode } Start MS-Windows-Store: # The aforementioned script is supposed to reset your store app and reinstall it with the other 2 apps affiliated with it. The common word to all the 3 apps is "store". Microsoft.Services.Store.Engagement ( x86 ) Microsoft.Services.Store.Engagement ( x64 ) Microsoft.WindowsStore

r/sysadmin on Reddit: How do you reinstall the Microsoft Store app if it was removed via PowerShell on Windows 10 Pro?
January 7, 2021 -

Back when my organization moved to Windows 10, someone in IT ran a PowerShell script to uninstall all the bundled Microsoft Store apps (Candy Crush, etc). The script was run as a local admin on all machines after initially installing Windows 10.

All was fine and good since everything is done on a remote session anyway.

Fast forward a couple years...

I have one machine from this time which has user data on the local machine rather than on the remote desktop (c-level manager) but I noticed that all of the seemingly built-in apps (Windows Calculator) are missing and traced it back to running this script. The problem is, the powershell script also uninstalls the Microsoft Store App and the user wants to install an app from there.

Short of re-imaging the machine, is there a way to reinstall the Microsoft Store app? The troubleshooters from MS TechNet don't seem to work for this situation.

This is the PowerShell script that was used to remove it and all of the store apps:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage
Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online
Get-AppXPackage | Remove-AppxPackage

Tl;dr: How does one install the Microsoft Store if it's been previously removed via PowerShell?

How to Reinstall the Microsoft Store on Windows 11
April 18, 2023 - This process involves running commands in PowerShell to remove core packages, so consider reinstalling Microsoft Store only when all your other fixes have failed to work. Also, we recommend you create a system restore point before removing the Store just in case anything goes wrong. Unlike other apps, you can't remove Microsoft Store using Settings or Control Panel. You'll have to run a command from a PowerShell window to get rid of the Store app.

Running windows 11 arm 22621.2215 install and the microsoft store app has disappeared. Using windows key and entering "microsoft store" brings up a hit that when you click it runs a troubleshooter process that doesn't resolve issue. I've tried the following search results suggested solutions and none of them has worked.

  1. run "Check for updates" and apply them if offered

  2. Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

  3. WsReset.exe

  4. Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage followed by Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  5. download and install the xbox app and lauch it and wait for it to display prompt to install missing microsoft store app dependency which never happened on my setup

Any suggestions on another option that is known to work?

You must never perform step 4 on Windows 11. This OS already has the Reset-AppxPackage cmdlet. You must never run step 4 it on Windows 10 20H2 or later, either. These versions have WinGet. In addition, in step 4, after your run this: # BAD CODE - DO NOT RUN Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage ... the following code potentially does nothing: # BAD CODE - DO NOT RUN Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} ... because Get-AppxPackage potentially returns nothing. Anyway... If your Windows 11 has Winget, try using it to install Microsoft Store. Otherwise, try reinstalling Windows. Trouble is, I don't know if either of these two steps can happen on Arm.

Hi u/Future_Worth6652 , thanks for reporting this bug! The proper way to report a bug to Microsoft is to submit it in the "Feedback Hub" app, and then edit your post with the link, so people can upvote it. The more users vote on your feedback, the more likely it's going to be addressed in a future update! Follow these simple steps: Open the "Feedback Hub" app and try searching for your issue, someone may have already submitted similar. If not, go back to the home screen and click "Report a problem" Follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure you include as much information as possible, and try to include screenshots and use the recording feature if possible. Once done, click "Submit". You can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue with the Microsoft Store: Reset the Microsoft Store cache: Press the Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Type WSReset.exe and press enter. This will reset the Microsoft Store cache. Re-register the Microsoft Store: Press the Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Type the following commands one by one, pressing enter after each one: powershell Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} Disable third-party antivirus or firewall software temporarily to see if it's causing the issue. Check for Windows updates: Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update. Perform a clean boot: This will help you determine if any third-party software is causing the issue. Go to Start, type msconfig, and press Enter. In System Configuration, go to the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all. Go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, select each item, and click Disable. Close Task Manager, click OK, and restart your PC. Reset your Windows 11: Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery, and then click Get started under Reset this PC. If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall Windows 11.

Assuming your PC is still functional, get a USB flash drive of at least 8GB. Make sure there is nothing on it, as it will be formatted and you will lose all data on it. Go to microsoft's download site and click the link below "Create Installation Media." Follow the instructions to create a bootable flash drive. Once the bootable flash drive is created, go to your motherboard's site and download the necessary drivers (esp. network drivers, and any storage pre-install drivers.) If they are zipped, unzip them, then copy them into a folder on the flash drive. You can also download the latest BIOS while you are at it and copy that onto the flash drive too. Once all that is done, make sure you have all your data on your pc backed up. Plug the flash drive in, and restart the pc. Press F11 or whatever key is used to go into boot manager. Select the usb drive to be the boot drive. Windows Install will run. From there, follow the instructions for a custom install. When you get to the drive select screen, delete all the partitions, then click "New" to create a new partition. This will allow you to do a fresh clean install without worrying about having any remnant partitions sticking around. Then just follow the prompts. If you need to install any drivers, press F10 or Shift-F10 to open a command prompt. Navigate your way to the folder on the usb drive where you copied your motherboard drivers, and run the EXE for whatever driver you need.

Hey, you can use the Windows 11 installation assistant from the microsoft site to perform a clean install on the device you're currently using, hope this helps 😊 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 After you download the Installation Assistant: Select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool. Once the tool confirms the device hardware is compatible, you will be presented with the license terms. Select Accept and Install. Once the tool is ready, click the Restart Now button to complete installation on your computer. It might take some time to install Windows 11, and your PC will restart a few times.  Make sure you don’t turn off your PC.
