r/ASUS on Reddit: ROG STRIX X570 E GAMING M.2 slots PCIe 4.0 or 3.0?
August 4, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I've been looking everywhere to find out the generations of PCIe on my M.2 slots. From what I find there's conflicting info everywhere, even in the official ASUS page. Some places say one of the lanes is PCIe 4.0 and the other 3.0, while other sources say 2 x 4.0 while some sources also say it depends on your amd cpu gen, I have gen 3 so according to them they would both be PCIe 4.0.

Problem is I'm looking into buying a second m.2 nvme and I'm currently looking at a PCIe 4.0 one. But I just can't find for sure whether my mobo supports a second 4.0 M.2.

Does anyone here know?

Thanks everyone

Edit: this is what I find on ASUS page which I don't fully understand:

Storage AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series/ 3000 Series Desktop Processors : AMD Ryzen™ 4000 G-Series/ 3000 G-Series/ 2000 Series/ 2000 G-Series Desktop Processors : 1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M Key, Type 2242/2260/2280/22110(PCIE 4.0 x4 and SATA modes) storage devices support 1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M Key, Type 2242/2260/2280/22110(PCIE 3.0 x4 and SATA modes) storage devices support AMD X570 chipset : 8 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), Support Raid 0, 1, 10 1 x M.2 x4 Socket 3, with M Key, Type 2242/2260/2280/22110(PCIE 4.0 x4 and SATA modes) storage devices support

February 5, 2021 - On the top side, it has 2 slots, but I remembered that there can sometimes be M.2 slots on the back. I went to check ASUS' website, and was met with this: Quote 1 x M.2 x4 Socket 3, with M Key, Type 2242/2260/2280/22110(...

r/buildapc on Reddit: ROG Strix X570-E Gaming M2 Slots question.
March 28, 2021 -

On Premiumbuilds the XXX is listed as having 2x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. I'd like to purchase 2 SSDs for the slots, but I dont really know what this means. On PCparpicker, the PCIe and M2 drives are separate - do I buy a PCIe SSD, or M2? And if I get M2, what do the numbers after M2 mean ( 22110/22802242/2260)?

I am assuming that is their size, 22mm across, and the rest is length. Does this matter with this Motherboard?

Thanks in advance. Sorry - this is the second time I've ever built a PC.

Question - Which M.2 Port to use for an Asus ROG strix X570 motherboard? | Tom's Hardware Forum
May 7, 2020 - Yes it does matter but it doesn’t either. Not trying to be flip. The slot closest to the cpu uses the PCIe 4.0 lane while the lower slot goes through the chipset. So, with that said if you look at demos on Youtube of loading times the difference is minimal between a good SATA SSD and the NVME SSD. I have and Asus TUF x570 with a Sabrent 4.0 and a 3.0 NVME.

Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming Review | bit-tech.net
July 31, 2019 - The lower M.2 slot does not support PCIe 4.0 SSDs (PCIe 3.0 limit instead), but both slots do include support for SATA SSDs and full-size 22110 drives too, so the board is still flexible when it comes to storage.

In the middle of my current build and am having trouble determining which of the two m2 slots on this mobo is the pcie gen 4 slot. I have an nvme 4.0 drive and want to make sure I am taking advantage of it. I checked all the documentation and manual and it doesnt seem to specifiy which is which. Can anyone help?
