Logging out of Amazon SageMaker Canvas - Amazon SageMaker AI
When you log out of Canvas, your models and datasets aren't affected. Any quick or standard model builds or large data processing jobs continue running even if you log out. To log out, choose the Log out button ( ) on the left panel of the SageMaker Canvas application.

Aws new service Canvas in sagemaker is a money sucker! is charging me $2000 without me really using it. And their customer service closed right after you start the chat or the phone call. It is literally impossible to close things in canvas or sagemaker. I spent hours on this to figure it out
I’m literally pissed by this ridiculous aws service !

You can definitely stop it, it’s just a bit hidden. I had the same issue. Open a support ticket, they’ll likely forgive the costs if they understand that you’re struggling to get it stopped

December 18, 2024 - There is a "Workspace Instance Session-Hour" charge running (see AWS docs on sagemaker-ai canvas pricing structure) even though you are logged out of Canvas, and this won't be visible to you in the Console, so you won't be able to shut it down. It's not an EC2, a VPC, storage, or any of the other usual suspects.

This document will assist you with shutting down AWS SageMaker: https://go.aws/3YKSBrk When you shutdown the Studio notebook instances, any additional resources, such as SageMaker endpoints, Amazon EMR clusters, and Amazon S3 buckets created from Studio are not deleted. September 24, 2021 - This feels like a bug, because without such a button the only way to stop charges on a Sagemaker user is to use the CLI, which I eventually did. You can only delete the domain if you have deleted all users, meaning it only works using the CLI for that as well.

You can use Lifecycle configurations to set up an automatic job that will stop your instance after inactivity.
There's a GitHub repository which has samples that you can use. In the repository, there's a auto-stop-idle script which will shutdown your instance once it's idle for more than 1 hour.
What you need to do is
- to create a Lifecycle configuration using the script and
- associate the configuration with the instance. You can do this when you edit or create a Notebook instance.
If you think 1 hour is too long you can tweak the script. This line has the value.

After we've burned quite a lot of money by forgetting to turn off these machines, I've decided to create a script. It's based on AWS' script, but provides an explanation why the machine was or was not killed. It's pretty lightweight because it does not use any additional infrastructure like Lambda.
Here is the script and the guide on installing it! It's just a simple lifecycle configuration!
