I’ve used Giza 45 percale for at least 10yrs now. I’m a warm sleeper in a warm climate and really like the fact that it’s lightweight and airy. It’s extremely soft as well. To me a thick sheet is not a sign a quality and for those that do, Giza wouldn’t make them happy. Ive always used quality “luxury linen” detergents and iron the pillowcases and top of flat sheet after every wash. My original flat sheet did fail and come apart at the hemstitch. I’m on my second flat sheet. The have since introduced a new version without the hemstitch, that is get when the time comes. Buy on sale when you do, prices have risen steadily over the years. r/Bedding on Reddit: My thoughts on Sferra Finna and Giza 45 Percale
January 23, 2024 -

I shopped around for luxury brand sheets last year and I had a lot of hesitation and went back and forth on buying them, so I thought I'd share my experience for those thinking of purchasing these expensive sheets.

I ended up purchasing both Sferra Finna and Sferra Giza 45 percale. The Sferra Finna were disappointing. While they are very comfortable, I did not find them much more comfortable than my Egyptian cotton sets from L.L Bean (although I've had some major quality control issues with LL Bean that make me wary of ever buying them again). I definitely do not think they are worth 3x the price.

However, after being skeptical of other reviews, I have to say that the Giza 45 sheets are on a different level and by far the most comfortable sheets I've ever had. They are silky smooth while still being very breathable. They are so comfortable, any other sheets I sleep with, including the Finnas, are noticeably less comfortable. I ended up buying another set, because they're just that good.

For those who can afford the $1000+ price tag, I definitely recommend the Giza 45s. However, I still think that my Egyptian cotton sheets from LL Bean are very comfortable and for those looking for something less expensive I would recommend them over the Sferra Finna's just because of the price alone.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Sferra Giza 45 Durability?
April 1, 2023 -

I'm in the market for new sheets and I was thinking about going all out and getting either a set of the Sferra Giza 45 percale or sateen. I recently received some swatches from Sferra and both are very nice but given how thin the sheets are I am worried that they won't last too many washing cycles. The sateen seem a bit thicker (and also just a bit nicer overall) but I'd also be fine with the percale and would appreciate the lower price.

Can anyone here speak to the durability of either the percale or sateen?

No pets, children, etc. so no concerns about that and also assuming that I get two sets and rotate them out each wash (1-2 times a week). I'm not expecting them to last forever but if they tend to wear through in a year or two, I'm not sure if the premium price is worth it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

August 15, 2022 - P.S. I'm assuming you and the wife are liking the Giza 45 percale set? I know that there's hardly anything like it, imo, and they are certainly worth it if you can afford them! :D ... I absolutely love my 45 Luce Sateen set. I have tried the luxe, but the sateen is dreamy ... If you email Sferra, they will send you samples.

r/Bedding on Reddit: St Geneve Giza 45 Sateen sheets vs others sheets?
October 5, 2023 -

I'm currently eyeing the St Geneve Giza 45 sateen sheets and I'm trying to compare them with other luxury bedding brands like from Sferra, Matouk or Frette. I’m curious about the Sferra and Frette Giza line since they seem comparable but are much more expensive than the St Geneve sheets. There’s also the Matouk Gatsby line that is percale cotton that seems great as well. In addition, I’m unsure if their slightly lower offering (Sferra Milos and Frette 600TC sateen sheets, Matouk Nocturne) is comparable to the St Geneve Giza 45.

I'm unfortunately only able to get swatches for the Sferra Giza and St geneve Giza so I’m not able to compare them all well. If anyone has tried the St Geneve Giza and compared them to the others or found something better, can you let me know?.

Now, I want to preface by saying that I haven't tried St Geneve's offerings since my local linen shop doesn't have them, nor Frette, but I can say that Sferra's Giza 45s are above and beyond pretty much anything most brands have as their 'premiere' top-shelf lines. There's just no comparison. At all. Matouk's Gatsby is nice but not as nice as you'd want at that price and pretty much all other brands that I tried with comparison to Sferra Giza 45s just could never compare or stand out as much as they did. Now, I've heard that Frette comes darn close to it with their Ultimate set, but I think even that brand falls just a tiny bit short of Sferra. St Geneve is not a bad brand and they're definitely a pretty primo one, but I think of them kind of like a Peacock Alley but perhaps a tad nicer. That's kind of how much of their products are like, and they definitely have more price-value offerings than most luxury brands, but their stuff never seems to be at the same level as the upper-level brands like Frette and Sferra---it's more about affordable luxury, if that makes sense. All of the brands and their models that you've listed are amazing for luxury bedding, but if you want top-shelf stuff I'd stick with the Sferra Giza 45s. The top one is the Giza 45 Luxe but it's insanely expensive and not for the faint of heart (or the working poor). The Giza 45 percale is the softest percale on the planet, but it definitely is pretty thin, so that turns off a lot of people. If you want a thicker sheet the Sereno would do pretty damn well for you for a heavier (but super-soft) percale, and if you want a more budget pick the Finna is pretty awesome overall but it won't come close to how soft the previous percale options are. For sateen the Giza 45 Luxe and the Sateen are A++ in terms of softness and are as good as you can get, with the Luxe being heavier and softer (I believe) and the Sateen much lighter but still unnaturally soft; the Milos, likewise, is the sateen version of the Sereno in that it's a much heavier and super-soft set, with the Giotto as a pretty decent budget pick for sateen. I'm unsure how most of the brands you listed compare to the Giza 45s from St Geneve, but I would expect that the Giza 45 from St Geneve would be comparable (hopefully), though it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Milos from Sferra is softer/better than St Geneve's highest offering Giza 45. The Sferra's are just that good and, for me at least, managed to eclipse all of the comparable luxury brands next to it, even their highest offerings. It's pretty insane (they must have an exclusive contract with the best Giza cotton growers in the Nile River Valley because something is in their sauce that nobody can match, short of perhaps Frette). Hopefully this helps you out, and while I have no doubt that St Geneve makes great stuff for the most part, their focus is mostly getting value for price rather than the highest quality that can be achieved on this earth. That's at least my observations of it from other users and their thoughts about it/impressions. If you have any more questions then feel free to ask---I'll do my best to help you out! :) And shoutout to u/Just-Another-007 for tagging me :) I appreciate it!

I haven’t tried the St Geneve Giza, but I have the st Geneve avorio pillowcases and they’re lovely (but they are silk). I love the Sferra Giza sateen. We also have the Finna, which is nice, but I prefer the Giza sateen. I haven’t had the chance to try the Matouk gatsby, but I’ve heard good things. I don’t know anything about frette, sorry!! u/SorcererLeotard is usually brilliant on all things bedding… 😁

Looking to get a quality sheet collection and after some research I’m set on getting one of these two. Hoping to get some opinions/feedback from those of you who have any experience with these, and which you think I should get. I’ll mention that Im a very hot sleeper so temperature control/cooling would be a big plus. Thanks!

Don’t be afraid to mix fabric types. I use Giza Percale as a Duvet Cover for breathability. Use Giza Sateen for fitted sheet for softness. Use Giza Seta for pillowcase because I like a bit of silk on my face. This mixture helped me create the best of all the worlds, couldn’t be happier. I much prefer Sateen for flat sheet since I move around a bit and percale creates a bit of friction. I have had the Sferra Finna and Giza percale Fitted Sheet.

If you are a hot sleeper then I'd say going with the Giza 45 percale vs the sateen would be the way to go. The Avorio is silk and while silk as a material is very cooling generally, silk sheets are a bit of a pain in the ass to maintain and if tightly woven enough will not be as breathable as cotton percale or linen. Sateen, likewise, is going to be warmer than percale, so while it might be really soft it won't do you many favors for breathability if that is the main goal + quality. Personally, I really like the Sferra Finna as it's a bit more substantial than the Giza 45s (especially the percale) and the price is pretty good overall for what you're getting. I've heard St Geneve is pretty good quality overall, but in terms of what is the best bedding brands it's usually a toss-up between Sferra and Frette, but only by small measures of degrees. I'm of the opinion, though, that once you start getting into luxury territory that getting fabric swatch samples is absolutely key so you don't get any surprises when you pull the trigger and know what the differences are in terms of feel/construction. Usually most brands will send free swatch samples but there are sites like FLandBath that will send them out from various brands so you can get them all in one order, which tends to be easier especially if you don't have a luxury linen store nearby to try them out in-store. However, I want to point out that also, many times when someone sleeps hot it's because of a variety of factors: the type of mattress they use (if it's foam then breathability will be limited because of this), mattress protector, duvet cover and insert, high thread count sateen sheets, etc. Diagnosing what traps heat in one's bed and replacing it with something more breathable or trying to work around it usually is a good idea generally since it will help a lot in the long run, in my experience :) Suffice to say, if one is using a Winter weight down insert/comforter on their bed then no amount of cooling sheets will be able to help much in that situation short of turning up your AC to arctic temps, you know? Hope this helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask! :)

r/Bedding on Reddit: Giza 45 not feeling Soft?
October 18, 2023 -

I was looking for a sheet and pillowcase set and saw a lot of people here recommending giza 45 (usually through sferra). I got a bunch of samples of:

Giza 45 Sateen

Giza 45 Percale

Giza 45 Luxe

Non-Giza 45 Percale

However, all of them seem to be scratchier and less soft than my current cheap microfiber sheets. I threw them in the wash once to see if it was a thing where they needed a wash cycle but it didn't make much of a difference. Am I missing something here?

r/Bedding on Reddit: Best of the Best
June 6, 2023 -

I am trying to create the perfect bed for me and my wife. I just bought a new California King mattress (and an Eight Sleep Pod 3 cover for temperature regulation) and am now considering bedding. My wife and I both like a cool/crisp bed, cold room, and warm blankets or covers. Here is what’s in my shopping cart at the moment (essentially all Sferra):

  • Sferra Giza 45 Percale pillowcases, shams, fitted and flat sheets, and duvet cover; enough for two sets to alternate when laundry is necessary

  • Sferra pillow protectors

  • 2x Cornwall medium density down pillows (European white goose, 900+ fill power, 345TC 100% German-woven cotton batiste)

  • 2x Cornwall firm density down pillows (same stats)

  • 1x Cornwall medium density duvet (same stats)

This is a very expensive purchase obviously and I’m nervous to pull the trigger. A few questions for the knowledgeable patrons of this wonderful sub:

  • While I understand the Sferra Giza 45 are endgame linens, is it worth buying the down pillows and duvet from Sferra? Can I receive the same or better quality elsewhere for less?

  • We currently have old Ugg poly fill pillows (that we actually really liked and were very soft). Given that we like cool sleeping surfaces (thus the Percale), are down pillows even a good idea? If we liked the polyester fill, which I believe would also be highly insular… perhaps we would be okay with down?

  • How do I consider which density to use for the pillows? I used St Geneve’s link here (https://www.stgeneve.com/how-to-choose-a-down-pillow) but I am not 100% sure. I am frequently a side sleeper and I believe my wife is as well which according to this link means we should do medium or firm, but the poly fill pillows we have are fairly soft I think. At first I intended to get 2 medium density pillows for us both but given the St Geneve link above, I decided on 1 medium and 1 firm. Does anyone prefer soft density down? Am I wrong about my decision here and should I do 1 medium and 1 soft?

  • Also regarding the pillows, given this is such a pricey purchase already, should I spring for the St Geneve Eider Luxe pillow instead? I read this is the “best pillow ever” by some in this sub. How significant is the difference between the Eider Luxe and a fine down pillow like those listed above?

  • Finally, what about the duvet? I was thinking perhaps medium density would be a good “all weather” duvet (is that true?) but I also mentioned we don’t like to be hot when we sleep. Keep in mind we also have the EightSleep in the equation… Given we can control the temperature of the bed, should we opt for a lighter duvet or a heavier one? (Or the medium?)

Thank you all for any assistance you can provide! This is a very big purchase for us so it will be very much appreciated!

So, to start off, wow! You don't do things by halves, do you? (That's not a bad thing!) :D You have a lovely shopping cart, though I have opinions on bedding that you can take with a grain of salt if you wish concerning some of the things you have in your cart. First off, the Sferra Giza 45 is the softest percale option you can ever get. Full stop. It's absolutely lovely and it is definitely the 'end goal' of luxury linens. However, some tend to not like how 'light' it is and want a sheet set that is heavier, so if that is a concern for you then Matouk's Gatsby is not only Giza cotton (not 45, but high up there) but it's 1000 thread count which will give you a much more substantial sheet set, in case the 'light as a cloud' Sferra Giza 45 sheets are a huge sticking point for you. Granted, it won't be as soft as the Giza 45 will be, but it will be very soft. If you want to stick with Sferra then the Sereno is another good option for the percale option as it is 800 thread count so it'll be pretty thick and is definitely the next-softest percale set from Sferra. If you are in any way, shape or form hesitant about ANY of the things in your shopping cart you should first (before pulling the trigger) feel the swatches/go to a store that has what you are interested in as samples to feel in-person. If you don't have access to a specialty linen store in your area then websites like Fine Linen and Bath usually have most sheet swatch samples to buy for a small fee and it is an awesome resource in case you want to try a bunch of samples in one fell swoop to decide what you like best. Once someone starts going past $500 in bedding purchases it is highly recommended you do this first before pulling the trigger as many times users get a sheet set they think is 'the one' and find out that something about it just rubs them them wrong way, you know? Also, if you are going to keep your room pretty chilly along with your bed (60s or 50s) then you might also be interested in Sferra's Giza 45 Luxe or their lighter sateen offerings since they tend to be uber soft as well as much more 'lightweight' than most sateen offerings and thus not as much of a heat-trap. The sateen for the Giza 45s are insanely soft compared to the percale weave, so thought I'd throw that out there in case you wanted to give the sateen ones a try too if you go the swatch/sample route (highly recommended) since you seem like the setup you have might actually be able to support them and their warmer temps. If you guys just really don't like sateen though, I totally understand! I just thought I'd throw it out there because the sateen vs the percale in Giza 45 is pretty dramatic in terms of softness and many have brought that point up since it's pretty (as I said) dramatic. Regarding the down pillows/duvets/etc. from Sferra: I would say that you'd find much, much better quality items from other brands. Sferra's strong point (I feel) is their linens, not their pillows or bedding accessories. In terms of pillows I would recommend a down/feather combo pillow since the down pillow will usually do better for those that are stomach or back sleepers. If you side-sleep you will tend to run into the issue of a down pillow that doesn't have enough loft to support your neck/head properly, even with really 'firm' options. I've just found that the combo of feather/down is much better for anyone that's a side-sleeper and while not all feather/down pillows are not created equally some are pretty damn good quality, overall. I've never bought/used an Eiderdown pillow, honestly, but I've heard they're lovely but am hesitant about getting them because the pricepoint is hard to justify and the loft issue is something that I have yet to see really addressed for side-sleepers that need a much higher loft (esp those that are heavier-set or have really broad shoulders). Likewise, if you want to have a 'cooler' sleep experience then going mostly feather for the pillows and duvet insert would probably be the wisest choice in case you want a more cooling option, though it definitely will have softness/plushness traded off for that feature. So, when it comes to pillows you really want to get one that works the best for you and your wife. If your bed is really soft and you sink into it a bit then getting lower loft pillows make sense, you know? If your bed is firmer and you side-sleep you definitely need the extra loft a medium or firm down/feather pillow affords you, so keep that in mind. Regarding pillows some more: I love old feather pillows. They give me the loft I need, never go flat for me and give me the neck support I desperately need that a regular down pillow just cannot give. This is why feather and down pillow combos are recommended very heavily by many, because the loft not only stays lofty long-term but it gives great loft/neck-support that most side-sleepers crave. Contour pillows are technically what you're supposed to use for proper spinal alignment and neck support but I despise the weird shapes most contour pillows have and can never really get into them for long-term use, especially since I am a side-sleeper that puts my hand under my head underneath my pillow when I sleep (which is problematic for most contour pillows I've been told). So, for pillow recommendations I have an entire list of things that might interest you. Keep in mind that I've tried over 30 pillows, all of different materials and some I haven't but have been jealously eyeing to try, so I hope you forgive me for wanting to live vicariously thorugh you in this way after I blew my entire pillow budget for the year, lol :D End of Part I (this is hella long, sorry!!!)

I saw these Sferra Giza 45 sheets at Bloomingdale’s and was obsessed. I think they’re from the Porta collection. But the fitted sheet alone was over $1100. I somehow found it on EBay for half the price so I got the fitted sheet and matching pillow cases and my gosh they are unlike anything I’ve ever felt and I’m sort of a bedding snob. April 24, 2023 -

Hi bedding people! I recently bought Sferra Celeste percale sheets, they arrived last week. I bought them from Bloomingdale’s, so I know they are authentic. I washed them according to the instructions, put them on my bed, and well… they don’t feel any better than my Brooklinen percale sheets. In fact I think they feel less smooth. Am I judging them too soon? Do they need a few washes to feel better?

I have a Sferra Celeste just in a pillowcase, and I was definitely underwhelmed with it as well. I have the Finna as well in the percale and it is a night and day difference from the Celeste, far more in line with what I expect from Sferra. A few washes helped, but not as much as I would have liked. I only got the pillowcase to test out what I thought of Celeste, but I have moved it into the category of "not worth it". I also am lucky enough to have the Giza 45 percale just for pillowcases. It is unfair to compare the Celeste to those, they are in a class all their own.

Celeste takes several washes to start breaking in. I was first introduced to it through a secondhand king duvet cover - it was the softest, smoothest, crispest and highest quality bedding I'd felt at the time. I absolutely loved it (and still do, 6 years later.) It has only gotten softer with time and held up incredibly well despite hard use. That duvet inspired me to purchase more from the Celeste line. I ordered a flat sheet, and I was sure there either had to be a mistake or the quality had seriously taken a nosedive since my duvet was made. It felt scratchy and was nothing like I was used to, even after a wash. I returned it. A few years later and still obsessed with my amazing duvet, I found a great deal on some Celeste pillowcases so I decided to give the line another try. These were also underwhelming straight out of the package, and even after a wash. Rather rough. This time I stuck with them though and within a few more washes I noticed them softening. It's to the point now that with each subsequent wash I can absolutely notice a further improvement in softness. I'm confident this is why my duvet feels so amazing and that these pillowcases will get there eventually. So if you're still struggling with Celeste I'd give it another shot if I were you, considering the price point for the quality. When broken in they are crisp, smooth, and cool, and they have a feel and even a look to them that to me is like an expensive men's dress shirt. I haven't been able to find this "look" or feel anywhere else, although I'm sure Giza 45 percale will live up to the hype when I manage to snag a few pieces.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Ready to make the jump to luxury linens for crisp, cool, cotton bedsheets
June 12, 2025 -

I’m considering making the jump to luxury linens & big fan of matte, crisp, soft percale sheets. I’m open to the investment if high-quality, durable, machine washable, minimal to no ironing, feels great first use & gets better year after year (like me LOL) Hoping for at least 8-10 yr useful life, used daily & washed weekly. Need deep fitted sheet that’s easy to put on and doesn’t slip off while sleeping. No sateen, bamboo or blend that has a slick or dampish feel. Live in east cost Florida town where it’s always hot & humid. 90+degrees & afternoon rain 80% of the year. Researching Matouk, Frette & Sferra so far. Finding tremendous price differences and offerings even within each luxury linen line.

There are no luxury linen stores nearby. Before making the journey to one, I’m trying to do my homework on quality, value, longevity, durability, owner feedback and questions to ask the sales person. I don’t want to be pressured into a decision because I feel like I’ve taken up too much of their time or have to make the long drive multiple times. ~$1,000 budget for set..fitted, flat, 4 pillowcases all King.

Looking for feedback on brands & product lines recommended and avoid based on my requirements. If you know of unbiased websites that do a fair comparison or review, please share. I understand linens are a very personal preference, but I’d like to know if you made the jump to luxury bedsheets & if you believe it’s worth the investment. If not, what brand & line do you recommend? If you made the investment and then later regretted it, why? Thanks.

I currently have LL Bean Heritage flannel sheets which I have been using in the winter months. I am looking to branch out and get some quality sateen sheets to add to my rotation. I understand that sateen is warmer than my percale summer sheets - but what can I expect for a comparison to flannel sheets? I would expect that Sferra Giza 45 would be more “luxurious” than flannel, but maybe not as practical for a cold winter. I tend to sleep hot so prefer percale for the summers.

So it is worth buying quality sateen sheets or do you think I should just stick to my flannel sheets?

r/Bedding on Reddit: Giza 45 and dust mites
January 4, 2024 -

I have a dust mite allergy and I am planning to upgrade my sheets to nicer quality, so I'm looking at the Sferra Giza 45 Sateen set.

It's strongly recommended to wash sheets in 130F / 53C water in order to kill the mites, every 1 to 2 weeks. This would be the "hot" setting on most washing machines. Most high end bedding brands, including Sferra, recommend warm or cold water to wash their sheets in - not hot.

Does anyone wash their Sferra Giza 45 sheets with hot water? Can they handle it fine, or does it ruin the fabric? I'm afraid of buying a high end bedding set, only for my stupid dust mite allergy to essentially ruin it by having to wash it in hot water.
