November 9, 2023 - Even the V will allow much taller loads than just a tonneau cover and also the back of the Mazda hatchback that the Maverick replaced. I don't suppose either of you with the MX noticed any fuel economy hit for the added drag. It won't be much drag, but there will be some. I went up and talked with the nearby Leer/Snugtop dealer yesterday.

I thought it will be an easy job to select a truck topper (F150) but boy I am wrong! I will be using it for my dogs (occasionally), camping, light off-road overlanding and general stuff.
After researching a lot, I have two options now:
SnugTop Rebel configured with Winddoors, keyfob lock and sportsman package to support 500lbs top load.
RSI SmartCap where you don’t need much configuration. Everything comes for that price! They have updated their locks and you can now open from the inside as well! But how hot or cold can it get when compared to the head liner in SnugTop?
Reason Leer and ARE are out of the race is that I find so many bad reviews for Leer and lack of good configuration options in ARE.
What do you folks think? SmartCap a better choice? Cost wise, surprisingly is not that different, comes very close!

Depending on what size bed you have, look into the alucab. The aluminum stays cooler inside, is lighter, doesn’t have a multiple piece design that relies on gaskets like the RSI. I’ve had mine on for 50k miles with a 165# RTT on it the whole time and it still looks and functions as new. Highly impressed with it. I was between this and the smartcap, but after looking closely at a few friends with them, I noticed that they don’t age particularly well. Surface corrosion from low grade stainless and leaking gaskets on both 1yo RSIs id seen.

Love my RSI on my Ranger. Am currently building a wood slide out extension for an extra ~20" of length. Love the sliding windows on the side. We put up magnets and mesh to get a little airflow on the sliding windows and window to the cab. Little pricey, but we love ours.

It's the 3rd Leer shell I've had on various trucks, and they've all been very good. I had a 100XQ on my Chevy, 100XQ on my Ford, and the 100XL on my Ram. All had carpeted headliners, frameless windows, etc. The Leers were all about $1850 including options. When I priced a Snugtop last time, it was like $3,000+ IIRC.

March 30, 2025 - The cost and quality are going in inverse directions. Parts can be hard to come by. Once Snugtop moved to Mexico things went downhill. On my new Snugtop (about 1 year old) I had to warranty the rear glass right away because of imperfections impregnated in it.
