Looking for a new bank to switch from a joint Citibank Basic account with high yield and bonus good benefits and the likes of such. I don't have too much money (200 in checkings and 1.5k in savings that's my mom's that she says I'm not allowed to touch which is so that I'm not charged a maintenance fee) but I do have a few job offers and I'm going to apply to SSI. I've decided to either use SoFi or Discover though they both charge for cash deposits which suck. Let me know what's a better bank overall.
I have considered having a Discover Bank Savings account. I noticed that in order to acquire 4.6%yield I need to link my direct deposit to the savings account(I am unable to do the 5000 or more money transfer every 30 days). I have 2 questions.
-
If I were to link my direct deposit from the current checking account I have to the savings for my first two paychecks/month then link the direct deposit back to the checking account(at another bank mind you). Will that 4.6% yield still be locked in even after taking the direct deposit off the savings?

Overall which is better, Sofi Savings or Discover Bank savings?
Thank you in advance!

Hey everyone! So I am 18 years old, just starting out in the “real world”.
I currently bank through Discover. I absolutely love their 1% cash back feature, and LOVE their customer service. Their savings is at 4.3% APY. The only problem I have is with depositing cash to said account. I can only do that at any Walmart and the closest Walmart location is 60+ miles away but I have a Walgreens nearby. Would it be worth switching to sofi, and or could you point out the benefits over Discover?
How is Sofi’s customer service, likely hood to protect you against fraud transactions, etc.
I have read PLENTY of horror stories of Sofi. I would like to see how long-term members hold up. Thank you in advance!
I have been with discover since November do you guys know if it is worth it to transfer my money to so fi?
I'm looking at getting a high yield savings account and I am not sure what option to choose from between SoFi and Discover. I dont want to move my checking account from where it is now and I don't want to have money direct deposited into the HYSA. I prefer to just transfer the money myself from my current credit union to the HYSA. With that being said, what's the better option between the 2? :)
Hi y'all,
I'm looking to open a savings account, and I'm debating between SoFi and Discover. SoFi offers a better APY, which is tempting, but I already have a credit card with Discover, so it would be nice to have money consolidated in one place. I have a separate checking account with Wells Fargo that I am happy with, and I do not plan to change that. Based on savings accounts alone, is SoFi or Discover better?
Thank you!
Made an account with all three, leaning mostly towards sofi because of the interest rate (I have direct deposit) and the “split my paycheck” feature to different vaults, thoughts?
Hey guys! I opened a SoFi account actually about 2 weeks ago for the higher APY. I waited until my direct deposit hit my account so I could have the 3% APY and then I was going to transfer everything from my Discover Savings Account. Now I go into my Discover account, TURNS OUT THE APY IS 3% THERE NOW TOO! Not sure what to do. I really enjoy discover and have credit cards with them, i’m just waiting for their cash back checking accounts to come back and there’s a 6 per month transaction limit on the savings account.
Do you guys think it’s worth it to switch over to SoFi if Discover has the same APY right now?
Sofi doesnt have transaction limits, so take that for what its worth.
But honestly, you are chasings pennies on the dollar. It'll be best to do what is simple. Keep it simple for your sake. Especially if both are identical.
There’s nothing wrong with having more than one account. I have my money spread out over 6 different checking and savings accounts
I know the answers are likely to be biased posting this in a SoFi subreddit, but has anyone here used both SoFi and Discover for their main checking account? I’m currently with Discover but on the fence about switching to SoFi.
Discover’s customer service is top notch. Plus they have Zelle integration… which I don’t use often, but maybe a couple times a year I’ll use it.
Anyway, just looking for opinions if anyone has tried both of these options.
I've kept my savings and emergency fund in Discover Savings for a few years. It pays 0.50% APR interest. I'm thinking of moving it all to SoFi this week now that they are offering 1% APR interest (plus a new account bonus). I've been happy with Discover Savings, it is super basic with no bells and whistles and I've never needed to use customer service. Generally every few years I look around to see what FDIC insured banks are offering the best savings interest/promos and switch if the difference is big enough. Right now I think that is SoFi is the best deal for high interest savings.
Ay advice or words of warning I should hear before making the switch?
I wouldn’t move for 0.50%, if the SoFi platform is better for you then go for it. But 0.5% is nothing to write home about.
Also, Discover customer service is probably better and has zelle integration (if that matters to you).
Sofi is great. With the fed hiking rates over the next few years the 1% is really only the floor. I'd expect to see Sofi continue to lead the way and increase the APR with hikes.
Discover - 3.6%, but has a $200 bonus when depositing $25k within 30 days
SoFi - 4%
Marcus - 3.75%
AmEx - 3.75%
They're pretty similar, what would you go with? Discover because the bonus? I have Wells Fargo checking/savings and Citi card from Costco.
If you have one or both of these account how do you like it?
I currently have SoFi which I have been happy with but I am a fan of my discover Credit Card and think I’d like to have a one stop shop.
Just curious…

In a Discover sub you will get preference for Discover. And I don’t use the feature but last I checked cash deposits to Discover checking accounts are free at Walmart.
I have both and have had no problems at either. I don’t see any reason not to get both really. I have probably made close to 1000 from both between new customer offers and rewards from credit cards. Disclaimer though, I haven’t had to use customer service but I hear discover is much better in that area.
Right now I have a checking and savings with Sofi but was looking at Discover, is it worth it to switch?
