Sorry to a complete dwid, this is just something I have never got into. Kazaa? Torrents? DC++? But never Soulseek.
Here’s the skinny, I have a 14,000 Albums, all 320 CBR MP3. I’m gradually changing over to FLAC. The mp3 files are a bit of a mess, but there is a fair amount of rare stuff there, from oink and wcd. I just want to share for sharing, I don’t want any files in return.
What’s the easiest way to use soulseek .. The files are on a synology NAS - I have an unraid server on 24-7, have an unused raspberry Pi.
Can someone tell a lazy person, the best way to get up and running with minimal effort.

Soulseek is a hybrid p2p and centralized system for file sharing. The vast majority of users are music-focused, but really it can be used for any files. If the central server is down, nothing works. A lot of the communication is p2p, but the searches are partially managed centrally, and include a clever feature that gives paid users top priority in everyone's queue. The official client for Windows & Mac is called SoulseekQt and I'm sure you can find it with a web search. If you're a glutton for punishment, there's an alternative, simplified client called Nicotine+ which also works on Linux. That's basically your only choice, as far as I know. [edit: there's also the "headless"/web client slskd, more for sharing than searching.] One-time setup: create a username & password to log in with, and you say what folders you want to share, and whether they're open to everyone or just whoever you've added to your User List. The system relies on the ability to open 2 ports on your router for incoming traffic while the client is running. In the Qt client you go to Options > Login > Check Ports and it'll open a web page that checks to see if your ports are open. If they aren't open, things won't work right. Although it sounds like a set it and forget it kind of thing, it does require some babysitting. The clients are not bug-free, and performance suffers when you're sharing a large number of files. The content of folders on a network or portable drive might stop being shared if the drive ever becomes disconnected, even temporarily, and it takes a rescan or restart of the client to fix. You might need to tweak the number of open slots for downloading & uploading, depending on your bandwidth and how many simultaneous downloads you can realistically support. The main problem, though, is just that some idiots queue way too much, have terrible download speeds, or their client keeps aborting and immediately retrying every download. Regardless of which problem it is, the end result is they hog a download slot for hours/days/weeks at a time, and you have to notice this and ban them to save them from their own stupidity. There's other features of the system which you'll see as you poke around, including direct messaging and chat rooms. If you want to use it to find things, be aware you can mostly only just search for files by name. Almost any word in the file path gets indexed, so it's just a matter of searching for somewhat unique keywords. Some searches are blocked at the behest of the record companies, though—e.g. if your search terms include certain band names, you'll get nothing. Soulseek is a free-for-all where people set their own rules. Quality of shares varies greatly. Many users share at least part of their collections freely, but some (too many, really) keep all their folders locked/userlist-only, and if you look at their userinfo you'll see they only let you in if you satisfy certain conditions which often seem more about establishing a pecking order than for any practical reasons.
