Do all Americans say ‘y’all’ or is it a regional thing?
It's mostly a southern thing, but we've slowly been propagating it around the rest of the country. Now the variants of y'all, like y'all'd've or y'all're are pretty much still exclusively southern in my experience. More on reddit.com

In the USA South, the expression “you all” is widely used. This seems a very good idea. Why is it not more widely adopted? - Quora
Answer (1 of 24): Why is y‘all a good idea? It is even difficult to say. It’s never you all - that would be easier. The ALL is unnecessary because the word ‘’you’’ is both singular and plural. Singular - will you hold this spoon? Plural - you are, we are, they are late.

r/Appalachia on Reddit: Y’all vs Y’uns…
September 29, 2023 -

Not a great debate….just a survey.

How many of you say Y’uns instead of Y’all?

Here in extreme southwestern NC, native mountain people dont use the “y’all” contraction of “you all” that everyone else in the south uses….

We use “Y’uns”, a contraction of “you uns” i believe.

any other “y’uns” users out there in appalachia land?

use like this…”y’uns is a buncha dang porch sittin likker drankin fools!” 😂

‘Y'all,’ that most Southern of Southernisms, is going mainstream – and it’s about time
July 28, 2025 - Southern Living magazine once described “y’all” as “the quintessential Southern pronoun.” It’s as iconically Southern as sweet tea and grits. While “y’all” is considered slang, it’s a useful word nonetheless. The English language doesn’t have a good second person plural pronoun; “you” can be both singular and plural, but it’s sometimes awkward to use as a plural.
