It means that you all get your own completely private account There’s never a need to share anything. So your daughters, wife and you would each create a Spotify account have your own playlists etc and use as many devices as you like Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

Recently saw someone asking how to pretend your a student to get Spotify student pricing. We’ll just wanted to say the family plan is $15.99 and you can split it with 6 people and it comes out cheaper than the student pricing without faking a student email/ID. You can all keep your same accounts too, you just activate it and add five friends. I just had them all pay me the $32 up front for the whole year so I wasn’t tracking them down for $2.60 payment each month.

July 29, 2024 -

for context, we are a family of 4, 2 daughters, me and my wife. we share a premium individual account across 4 devices, then i bought my daughters a tablet and they installed spotify. and now one of us gets logged out from time to time, is it true only 5 devices per account? then i saw the family plan, with 6 accounts all tied in, does that mean we can log in 5 devices per account? and also can we import and export playlist? since my account holds all our playlist.

Is this not insane to anybody else? I have been trying for the last couple of days to change to the basic spotify family plan from the premium spotify plan so I dont have to pay for audiobooks I dont use. But apparently if you change your subscription after June 20th, youre not allowed to have the basic plan?? After searching online theres no solution to this either

I love spotify and have been using it for 5+ years at this point but this is crazy to me

November 30, 2024 -

so my card got changed and i originally had basic family premium, but when i added my new card, it told me to choose either premium individual, duo or family. family is $20 while basic family was $16. is this option gone now?? i don’t rlly use audiobooks so it’s a waste of money for me to get the $20 one. plus i already had the subscription idk why it got taken away.

I was considering starting a family plan with some friends soon, but was wondering the living at a same place strict, or is it alright if they live separately? They all keep their accounts and the only thing that changes is I'd be paying for all of us, right? Thanks ahead of time!

Individual vs family

Besides sharing an account with the family is there a difference? In Premium Individual I was able to listen and download some books but now I just got Premium Family and it’s got this message:

You can't buy audiobooks in the app, but titles you've already purchased through Spotify can be listened to here.

In individual the lock icons weren’t on any of these chapters - what am I doing wrong?

r/truespotify on Reddit: Does anyone on the basic family plan have auto mix or lossless? Or are these only for Premium Family Plans?
September 19, 2025 - I contacted Spotify and they told me lossless will roll out to Basic Duo plans, as they are premium accounts, just called something different as they don't have the useless audiobook feature. I had the mix feature arrive this morning, but no lossless audio yet ... I just got access to automix on Basic Family, in Canada.

r/truespotify on Reddit: Spotify not allowing Premium plans to switch to basic plans
June 22, 2024 -

I just got done with a hour long chat with support. I'm trying to switch our Premium Duo plan to a Basic Family Plan so I can add our kids and opt for a plan that doesn't include audio books to save money. After an hour between two people, they told me I can't "downgrade" my account to a Basic Family Plan.

Is anyone else dealing with this bullshit? I've been a premium subscriber for over ten years and I haven't complained even though podcasts and audiobooks have been forced on my subscription while fees continue to rise.

After all my loyalty, this may be the breaking point.

And they also told me there's no way to contact them via phone. I wanted to escalate my request. Does anyone know how to reach support via phonecall?

Basic Family Plan - The Spotify Community
August 16, 2025 - This page does not show "basic" anything. It shows "premium" plans for indiviudal, student, duo, and family. I'll try to be more clear: Is the cheaper, no audio book, version of the family plan available to be used or not?

This plan seems pocket friendly. But my question is, can 6 people living in different locations use this plan? I mean, will the users have to live in the same location or house to use this plan, as it's a 'family' plan?

In some yt vids they were saying that sometimes Spotify checks the users' location.

There are lots of reports recently being automatically kicked out from family plan. I wonder if Spotify is enforcing heavily in cracking down family sharing accounts. We can no longer go back even if we put the correct address on the main spotify account. Do you guys experience this too? Do you know any workaround on how to put the member’s account back to premium?
