Tidal would need to make their atmos tracks available to play through Sonos. Sonos may be involved in helping them get that setup and tested, but it’s ultimately up to Tidal to get done. Answer from melvimbe on en.community.sonos.com

What is the maximum quality of TIDAL on Sonos?
You can stream Tidal on Sonos at CD quality up to 16-bit 44.1 kHz. It's also important to mention that not all Sonos devices are compatible with Hi-Res audio, as shown below. This means that even if your device supports Hi-Res audio, Tidal on Sonos won't display the highest sound quality when streaming. If you want to preserve the Hi-Res sound quality, it's better to download the original Tidal tracks via ViWizard Tidal Music Converter, which preserves the audio quality 100% and allows uninterrupted streaming of Hi-Res Tidal music on Sonos.

r/sonos on Reddit: Tidal Dolby Atmos sounds amazing on Arc
October 17, 2019 -

Maybe this is well known and I’m the last to figure it out so bear with me. I have an HD Fury Arcana, an Arc with surrounds and sub, and I use an Apple TV 4K for most of my media viewing. I subscribe to the HD Fury YouTube channel and notice that they posted a new video of playing full bit rate audio from the Tidal app on Apple TV, so I thought I would give it a try.

Mind. Blown.

I already thought the Arc sounded great, but the Dolby Atmos music on Tidal is next level. It sounds amazing.

r/sonos on Reddit: Tidal v Apple Music (Dolby Atmos, Lossless)
June 1, 2024 -

I’ve signed up for Tidal today. I wanted to see if I will gain anything for my Sonos system over Apple Music. If I stream via the Sonos app from Tidal, there is no Lossless badge, while Apple Music is displaying one.

My setup: Stereo pair of Fives and Sonos Arc + Sub4

I’ve tried AppleTV apps for Dolby Atmos but found that Tidal won’t display a DA mix of the album that I can see on my iPhone app. I’ve tried the Android TV app (Sony stock OS), and there is one. Kinda weird that AppleTV app and Android TV apps display different content while both claim Dolby Atmos support. The album I was looking for is Limp Bizkit “Results May Vary”. On top of that whenever I play music through my Tidal app on my TV, the Sonos app still shows nothing about it. No lossless, no Dolby Atmos badge. Just the Tidal logo.

On the Apple Music app (AppleTV), I have no problems finding Dolby Atmos, and the app shows clearly that it’s a Dolby Atmos mix.

Anyone got the same experience with Tidal on Sonos? Because I’m not sure if I want to keep Tidal now or just stay on Apple Music.

I can hear the difference on my Arc + Sub setup in music. Apple Music, even in basic lossless (no Dolby Atmos), sounds a bit brighter and richer. However, on my Fives, I barely can tell the difference between the two services.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong here?

I’m not sure if Tidal will show a lossless badge, even when playing from the Sonos app. Tidal on Sonos is regulated to 16bit 44khz, not the full 24bit 48khz that the Sonos speaker can achieve. Why I’m not sure but it’s something regulated on Tidal’s end. You might have to contact Tidal as to why. https://support.sonos.com/en-us/services/tidal Have you tried Amazon Music Unlimited though? Seriously give them a try, if you haven’t already. They have a three month trial on right now as well. In my opinion, it‘s the best all around music platform for Sonos (showing HD or ULTRA HD badges for lossless songs in the Sonos app) and they have lots of Dolby Atmos songs as well. Hearing the difference for yourself, just as you’ve done with your comparison between Tidal and Apple Music, is what really makes the difference in choosing a platform. But Apple Music would definitely be my second runner up. It sounds really decent as well, especially when played as lossless through the Sonos app. And if you like being in Apple’s ecosystem, it works nicely with it (i.e. See and save song ”insights” to Apple Music when watching a show on Apple TV+). Oh and Apple’s new smart home push in 2025 might actually bring some interesting Apple Music (maybe even Airplay) lossless possibilities with its newer Wifi6E home hubs but it’s all just rumours and speculation at this point.

Since no one else has pointed this out: This does depend on which Sonos speakers you have. For the older-gen speakers -- for instance, I have Play:1s and a Play:3 -- Apple Music streams at a lossy 256kbps. Tidal can do lossless CD quality 16-bit 44.1kHz, even on the older speakers.

Dolby Atmos on Era 300 with Tidal | Sonos Community
January 31, 2023 - I ordered Era 300 speakers and I am really impressed with the sound, but frankly I am a bit disappointed that Dolby Atmos support is limited to Amazon Music and Apple Music.I use primarily Tidal and would really like to be able to listen to the mixes available in their library.
