For me, I've been "vibe coding" all year as a novice developer, producing mostly Typescript. But now I'm learning to write Typescript myself so I can build agents .
My stack is Typescript focused:

Two main reasons: 1. Why not spin up a TS project even if you don't intend to use TS. JS is all still valid. And you never know when you might want extra type safety or if you even want to fully convert. 2. A lot of AI/LLm coding will spin up at TS instead of JS project because of this. And then it's just the self-sustainting loop of AI sees a lot TS, so will default to TS, which will create more TS projects to scrape and/or support so AI next time will also be like cool, let's go with TS.

A dev told me to learn typescript because there are more devs using it compared to vanilla JavaScript thus there are more typescript jobs than js jobs. Is this true?

It's not one or the other. If you don't know JavaScript, I would focus on that first before jumping into TypeScript. If you do know JavaScript, learning TypeScript is fairly easy. Once you're decent enough at both JS + TS you'll have a better chance at a larger pool of jobs. You'll find that some companies are heavy on TS use and others are pure JS. In many cases people are very opinionated about why they use either, and they love engaging in dogmatic discussions as to why you must go one way or the other. I love TS and it's what I prefer to use, but I know many people hate it for their own reasons. I may disagree, but that doesn't invalidate them. Learn both, stay open minded and don't stop learning stuff.
