recently just bought a 30w ugreen pd fast charger. so far it has been charging my iphone 15 generally well but ive been reading up on many mixed reviews on ugreen’s products.
so which is better? should i just return the 30w ugreen pd fast charger and get a standard apple 20w charger?
Hi, everyone.
I’m new to the iPhone world and have a question about charging my iPhone 15 Pro. I know heat is the biggest enemy of batteries, so I’ve been following good practices to take care of mine.
When I bought my iPhone, I also purchased the official 20W Apple charger and its original cable (unfortunately, I had to pay extra since the phone doesn’t include them). I’ve also enabled the optimized battery charging feature and follow habits like charging between 20%-80%, turning off unnecessary background apps, and using dark mode.
However, I’ve noticed that the phone always gets hot while charging with the original 20W charger, no matter the conditions—even in my air-conditioned office. Because of this, I usually unplug it before reaching 80%, sometimes stopping at 50%-60%, depending on the situation.
One day, I forgot my original charger and had to use a UGREEN GaN 65W charger at the office. It has:
One USB-A port (max 22.5W).
Two USB-C ports (up to 65W if one is used).
I used the USB-A port with a UGREEN cable, as I didn’t have time to check if this specific charger is MFi-certified (though I know UGREEN is listed on Apple’s official certified accessories list).
To my surprise, the phone charged from 30% to 80% in about 45 minutes and stayed completely cool. It felt as if the phone was in sleep mode! This has never happened with the Apple charger, which always generates noticeable heat.
My questions are:
Is it safe to continue using this UGREEN charger?
Could it be better than the original Apple charger for preventing overheating and protecting the battery?
Additional notes:
According to UGREEN’s specs, the USB-A port delivers a max of 18W (which seems consistent with the charging speed I observed).
When using the USB-C port with Apple’s original cable, the charging is faster but still generates some heat (though less than the 20W Apple charger).
My priority is to protect the battery, as this iPhone was a big investment for me, especially since I use it with hearing aids.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
