Ugreen USB to DB9 RS232 on Windows 11
Ok, I can answer my own question... Solution was to not try to find Ugreen drivers but PL2303GT drivers. I managed to find a download from here . I never had any success with drivers from the Prolific Taiwanese website that all other solutions point to. When you open the zip file, I pointed device manager (running as admin) to the "PL2303G_DCHU+DFx_Win11_21H2_24H2_v5.2.7.2_20240613_ML_Driver" folder More on reddit.com

I have the ICUSB2321F adapter. We have started testing Windows 11. When I plug the adapter into the laptop, it says no drivers available. Do they work with Windows 11? More on community.startech.com

Best option is to roll back to win10. Win11 has too much issues with serial or rs232 drivers. As a network engineer i have to console eah day. So we have two types...prolific and ch340. Win10 works fine with the built in ch340 chipset and can console to every switch/router. Prolific works if you manually install the latest driver. But in win11 i had endless issues with both chipsets..even if they say win11 compatible. More on reddit.com

Has anyone managed to get a Ugreen USB to DB9 RS232 working on Windows 11? I've not had any luck by downloading PL203 drivers and there is no driver to rollback as it is a fresh install of Win 11, not an upgrade from Win 10 (suggestions found from research on the internet).
Alternatively, has anyone got recommendations for a RS232 DB9 adapter that works on Windows 11?
For the benefit of the moderator Nazis in r/networking that decided to remove my thread, using a serial cable to manage enterprise network gear is rather an important topic in my opinion, but fuck you guys.

You may have to disable windows driver signing protection to install. I have that problem with Android ADB drivers

Hello everyone. I'm trying to access a router cli by connecting it to my personal laptop, and it's running windows 11. I downloaded and installed the necessary driver which apparently supports the latest version of win11, but when i connect the port and enter device manager it tells me the driver doesn't support win11. I tried downloading from other websites and uninstalled/reinstalled the driver but to no avail. I'm working in a lab with a couple others and all their devices accessed the router without much issues, theyre all running win10 or earlier so the issue is almost certainly inherit to win11.
If anyone is familiar with this problem and has a solution it would be much appreciated.

In case anyone comes searching in the future. My current workaround requirements Virtual Box Live Ubuntu image I boot a VM in VirutalBox and passthrough the usb-serial adapter. Once the USB is passed through, I run terminal and can use "sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0" to access the CLI. You can also do this booting off a live ubuntu USB and then you don't have to use a VM.

I use an USB/RS-485 converter with an FTDI chipset daily, and it but I haven't done a 232 link in a decade. I can't even find my USB/232 converter.
An Amazon offer for a device claiming its an FTDI chipset tells me to go to the FTDI website and download the driver and install it. That process makes me wonder whether the device has a genuine FTDI chipset, because I never recall having to install a driver for a converter with an FTDI chipset, The FTDI converters I'd used in the past (and now) have always "self-installed by finding its driver in the Windows driver set and coming up Device Manager as active and enabled.
Have things changed over a decade where USB/232 converters with FTDI chipsets no longer self-install?
What's your experience with 232or 485 converters with FTDI chipsets?

I just buy the branded FTDI cable from DigiKey or Mouser. I like the one with the electronics in the USB connector and pigtails and add your own DB9. I've never had Windows fail to have the driver preinstalled since Win7.
