I moved in April and have been able to use the hold mail service online 2-3 times since then without issue. Tried to use it again (after we left town, of course) and have been getting this error since Saturday.

What would cause mail holding to not be “available for this address” when it worked as recently as 3 weeks ago? We’ve never had any issues with delivery and live in a large neighborhood.

I am still getting informed delivery emails and on the informed delivery section of my account, it shows my address is valid and verified.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

Its all as far as you're local office is concerned. Its why my snowbirds always give me a physical copy to pick up. Don't have to have anyone in the way to just let me know in person. I recommend giving your local office a call if you're able, or aska friend to pick up your mail

I just tried submitting a hold mail request but got the message, “This service is currently unavailable.” I tried different browsers, clearing cache, etc. Still doesn’t work. All other links on the usps site work but not this one. Anyone know what’s going on? Anything else I can do?

You can ask your carrier or go to the office for a manual slip. I’ve also accepted notes in the mailbox stating when the hold ends and begins. Make sure they can see the note.

After submitting I get this message:

" Sorry, the resource you are looking for could not be found. It may have been moved to a new location. Please use the navigation links or search bar to locate the resource."

I was really intending to get the hold mail started tomorrow as I will be going out of town, not sure what to do now.

The last time we went out of town, we requested to Hold Mail, and the post office did not. We made multiple online complaints that the mail was still being delivered, but the only thing that worked was calling the post office. Then they held it for two days and then started delivering the mail again every day again while we were still not in town.

Next time, we are looking at calling in every day to the post office if they don't hold the mail again. I wish this was a paid and reliable service like mail forwarding, because it is a security issue to have mail delivered to our house every day when we aren't there to bring it inside.

Any other tips on getting hold mail to work for us?

Sounds like your route might not have a regular and is being cased/ delivered by different people every day.

Go to the office and fill out a hold card and hand to clerk in advance. Since city carriers take their mail to the street, the best thing to do is leave a visible note in the box, MAIL ON HOLD.
