I got a quote from Home Depot for a vinyl floor install and it seemed a bit high, but since this is my first home (bought in Nov 2021) and my first time getting flooring done I wanted to see if this is a fair estimate or if they are high balling me. It’s for 103 sq. ft. In my basement. Just a small area for me to make my office down there. All together for material and labor they quoted me $1100. Does that seem fair? This is the flooring I would like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Peyor-Blue-7-13-in-W-x-48-03-in-L-Rigid-Core-Click-Lock-Luxury-Vinyl-Plank-Flooring-23-77-sq-ft-Case-VTRHDPEYOAK7X48/314263482
What do you think?

Location: Ohio. My local Home Depot has in-store advertisements (signage) stating the labor for flooring installation is $2.79 per square foot for "Complete Installation". I requested a quote for some vinyl laminate and carpeting to be installed. BTW the install price for labor is supposedly $1.01 per square foot although I did not see in-store signs advertising such. An employee told me. So when I received the quote the labor cost for the vinyl laminate was about twice the advertised $2.79. Is this legal?
Family friend offered me a side job installing vinyl flooring in their kitchen/upstairs area. They already bought materials, just need a price per square foot for installation. 2000ft², so $2-3 per square ft installation price? And if I have to tear out existing tile what would you price that?
Hi folks! My partner and I recently purchased our first home which needs some aesthetic improvement. We decided to tackle flooring first since we believe that + paint will do the most to improve the feel of our home. This was the quote we got for luxury vinyl flooring: $3.29/sqft plus $3,559.31 labor. First off, is this a reasonable cost for labor? Does anything jump out as a red flag? We're in Canada so prices are in CAD. We can afford it, we just don't want to get ripped off. We think most of the cost is from moving furniture and appliances, which seems fair since we do have a lot of furniture and we're doing all the flooring throughout our home including kitchen and bathroom. Secondly, how do we feel about the colour? What do you think about doing it in the kitchens and bathrooms too? I suppose it's "trendy" but in my mind it dispels any illusion that it's hardwood, or people might think it's gross if they do believe it's real wood. (Re: photos, that's the same tile in different lighting.) Finally, do we like this trim? It'll be 3.5" high but very basic. I'm worried that it won't match the trim around the doors and closets, which was probably original to the original owners (condo was built in 1997) and has a more classic texture/shape instead of being a flat plank. That said, it should be easier to clean than something with more crevices and since we're planning on growing our family in the coming years, that's definitely an asset. As young millenials, we're the only ones we know who own their home so we don't have anyone to bounce ideas off of. Would really appreciate some feedback from more seasoned homeowners and interior design enthusiasts. TIA! :)
Can I get some realistic pricing to what i should be paying for grey vinyl flooring? This is only for 580sqft. As i said above some guys want to charge $3500 labor for 580sq ft vinyl floor job and then $1500-2000 dollars for the materials which sound like bs. I asked how much carpet was and he said 500 dollars less. I know some people will here will give more realistic prices, i live in detroit mi.
We currently have carpet and are wanting to get LVP installed in our home. The space we are wanting LVP installed is 572 sq ft. He charges a labor cost of $6 per sq ft for install and $3 sq for demo. He offered to waive his demo cost and will do demo and install for $6 sq ft. He quoted us with $3,432 for total labor. We selected LVP that is $1.69 per sq ft. So our total cost pre tax is $4,482. We are in the front range of Colorado, near Denver. The contractor does not have a team and will be doing all the work himself. My mother in law thinks this price is higher than what we should pay. She said we shouldn’t be paying more than $3 per sq ft and that price should include demo and install. We have no experience in this area, so any feedback would be appreciated.
Edited to add: he has a deal with a flooring store in our town, so if he buys from them they discount the flooring. He brought us samples from that store and we selected one we liked without knowing the cost. I didn’t realize I needed to ask about all of the things about the floor that you all mentioned. I naively thought that it was all the same and that he would only show us high quality floor as we requested.

We want to change some old bad laminate floors to Vinyl (click on).
Stores like Home Depot and Lowes have floor installation service. I have not heard of anyone using them. Are those good to use, or should we look for flooring teams on google/yelp ? How about thumbtack?
Thank you.
This is my first quote for doing LVP on the main floor of my home. The price seems steep to me but I'm wondering if it's just a reality check that I didn't understand how much this would actually cost. Details as follows: Southwest Ohio Local business, many years in trade. Approx 1100 sqft LVP priced in store at $4/sqft. I would be demoing the hard floor in the kitchen and they would demo carpet in the remaining 900ish sqft. I have to move all the furniture, I guess they are moving the fridge? The one stair nose is where the upstairs flooring meets stairs to the basement. They wouldn't be removing the baseboards and would be installing primed quarter round. No mention of subfloor prep in the quote at all so I suppose they would charge me more if they found dips that need attending to.
Since he didn't give me an itemized estimate, my math says it's about 7820 in labor or approximately $7.10/sqft. Is this the going rate? I wondering if I should even entertain other quotes or just prepare to do this myself. I'm relatively handy.
I appreciate y'all's insight and opinions.
They offer a basic install of 0.89/Sq ft. Seems like a pretty good deal (doing our entire basement, around 800sq ft), but the basic install doesn't include current flooring removal, floor prep, etc.
Anyone know what they charge for "non-basic" install? We have some cracks in the concrete that would need grinding /filled, and the carpet tack strips are pretty firmly in the concrete too, so the basic install seems like a no go.
Had a quote from a contractor that quoted $3-4 per square ft, which seemed high but I have no baseline to compare to.
Updating flooring. Need guidance and feedback
How is home depot / lowes /costco in MI for contracting the flooring updates to hardwood ? HD offered ~$7- $7.50 per sq.ft for flooring and installation. Is this a good pricing ?
Is this DIY if we want to do 1800 sqft ? Removing existing engineered floor and changing it to traditional hardwood floor. We are beginners level for using machine tool.
Are local contractors better than box-contractors ?
Thank you.
First time home buyer here.
We just moved into our new home in June of this year. Within days of moving in, we stumbled upon a sewer main issue. Click here if you’re interested enough to know the full backstory. Our insurance came out and assessed the damage from the water backup, and mailed us a $3,500 check to fix the floors (LVP + baseboards) throughout most of our house. They’re giving us the freedom to go through any contractor we would like (or we can do it ourselves). I’ve had a couple contractors out to quote the job. Our first quote came around $9-$15 per sqft (this includes material, labor, disposal, everything). This seems WAY high, I was a bit thrown off by this number. The variation in price depends on quality of material we select, but even then it seems high. I’m looking at the price of material and I’m wondering if I should just do this myself? I’m fairly handy, but I have never worked on floors or anything this extensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
TLDR: Should I spent top dollar to have a pro install LVP, or should I wing it and do it myself with limited experience?
I see they do carpet free install. I was curious if anyone had ever seen them ever offer a vinyl floor install similar to the deal they do for carpet?
