Need recommendation for inkjet printer, preferably sold at Amazon or Walmart.
Is it possible to buy your own printer?
I think my local Walmart 3D printed their new addition
Cheap Printer
I have a brothers hl-2270dw laser printer. The toner doesn't dry out like an inkjet so, while sometimes more expensive up front, it is perhaps a better investment. I haven't looked lately but when I was looking for a printer, Reddit seemed keen on Brothers laser printers. Mine was 100 dollars and came with a standard yield toner cartridge, which prints UP TO 1200 pages.
Assuming 5 dollars a ream (500 sheets) and 1000 prints from a 100 printer, that would be (forgive me if my math is terrible.... I would double check it if I were you) $110 divided by 1000pages for $0.11 per page.
However I will also say, I saw a different model that looked comparable to mine for $63. 73/1000=0.073. Further, a high yield replacement toner is about $15 for up to 2600 pages (we'll round that down too). 15/2000=0.0075. So, if you have a lot of printing to do....
Eventually, you will need a new print drum ( I think they are good for 10,000 pages and, I believe run around $50. I haven't had to replace mine, but I'm only through one standard toner and one high yield toner on a printer I bought 5 years ago. I've been happy with it.
This is only my experience; hopefully more users will chime in. I hope this helps and I wish you well in your schooling.
