What does the Bible say about dinosaurs? Are there dinosaurs in the Bible? | GotQuestions.org
September 18, 2005 - Those who believe in an older age for the earth tend to agree that the Bible does not mention dinosaurs, because, according to the old-earth paradigm, dinosaurs died out millions of years before the first man ever walked the earth, so the men ...

r/Christianity on Reddit: Dinosaurs in the Bible
June 19, 2021 -

I’m with family and someone brought up the question of when did god create the dinosaurs according to the Bible? We read through the genesis and it said god created Beast and other animals on the fifth day and he also created man on that day. But scientists say dinosaurs died out millions of years ago and man never lived beside them. So when exactly did they exist according to the Bible.

The bible’s purpose is not to tell us when God created dinosaurs. It’s to communicate God’s love for us and how we can spend eternity in Him because of His love.

I am a Christian and have young children amongst whom is a son who absolutely loves dinosaurs. We have read through many books about the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods; even how the earth was initially Pangea one land mass which got separated over time into the continents we have now. I personally believe that the genesis account is not to be taken literally in seven days as in 24 hours each day. Also the concept of space and time is something that is perhaps more complex than what we understand it to be. The archaeological evidence of dinosaur fossils is something I can’t dispute and even though man does not exists with dinosaurs, this doesn’t mean that the existence of dinosaurs conflicts the genesis account. ““The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭29:29‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ In the things which are still a mystery maybe God might let us know how they come to be when we see Him again. But for now, even as I enjoy the knowledge of dinosaurs with my children, it is more important that I teach them God’s Words which He has revealed to us because more than just the science and knowledge of dinosaurs, God’s teachings helps us live and navigate through life in an uncertain and fallen world.

I don’t think it’s all that important for everyday Christians to understand how dinosaurs (and their extinction) fit into the biblical creation narrative, even though questions related to them seem to come up more often with today’s generation than past ones. More on discourse.biologos.org

ELI5:How does the Bible explain dinosaurs?
Worth pointing out that the bible is made up from texts that are about 1900 years old. Dinosaurs have only really been recognised in the last 200 years. The area in which the bible came about is not somewhere with particularly good fossil bearing geology so it's not a theme the bible ever had to deal with. More on reddit.com

why doesn't the bible talk about dinosaurs?

The word dinosaur wasn't invented until after early English translations were made. So you will find terms such as dragon, leviathan, behemoth, etc. Which seem to imply dinosaurs of various sorts. The actual term 'dinosaur' wasn't invented until 1841.

If you want a deep treatment of this, I recommend this video.

August 18, 2025 - They existed because God made them — and they are a part of his grand design. We may never truly understand the history of dinosaurs, but we can be assured that they were created by God. They’re extinct. Theories as to how they went extinct range from the flood to an ice age, asteroid impacts, or climate changes.

January 13, 2019 - If dinosaurs had existed, they would have been on the ark—and still would have existed in large enough numbers to be documented throughout man’s history. The story of the Bible is not about a young Earth, but an ancient one that was literally impacted by the rebellion of a great archangel so many years ago.

The Bible does not comment on the disappearance of the dinosaurs. However, it does state that all things were created “because of [God’s] will,” so God clearly had a purpose for making dinosaurs.

What we cannot explain does not necessarily lack existence, but is simply another matter, among others, about which the Bible says nothing and that provides potentially fascinating questions for us to study using the fossil record and other data. We should teach our students and church members that dinosaurs did exist. We have clear evidence: we have dinosaur bones, teeth, eggs, footprints, and even impressions of their skin. Furthermore, at some point in history they disappeared. Their extinction could have taken place before, during, or after the Genesis Flood.

If this happened, why was the extinction selective? Why did some plants and animals, including some more fragile than dinosaurs, not become extinct? From a biblical perspective, the most likely explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs is the worldwide Flood described in Genesis 6 and 7.

May 1, 1989 - In doing so, He not only fulfilled His promise that they would begin to die (2:17), but evidently He actually changed the genetic makeup of each "kind" so that all their descendants would forever be different. He changed Eve's body structure (3:16); the plants (v. 18), and the animals, as well (v. 14). Perhaps at this time dinosaurs and other animals acquired or began to acquire body parts designed for aggression or protection.

May 16, 2021 - Here are some facts about dinosaurs that are not accepted as true anymore: Dinosaurs were specifically reptilian. Dinosaurs were the dominant species. Dinosaurs are millions of years old. Dinosaurs and man never coexisted. Today, Science will tell you that dinosaurs were primarily avian - some even believe that they never went extinct, only evolved into the bird population of today. Others will say that they were killed off in a global cataclysmic event like an asteroid strike, and even Christians will use a version of this theory, stating that the dinosaurs were killed off in the flood of Noah.

The Bible, God’s very special book (or collection of books, really), claims that each writer was supernaturally inspired to write exactly what the Creator of all things wanted him to write down for us so that we can know where we (and dinosaurs) came from, why we are here, and what our future will be. The first book in the Bible—Genesis—teaches us many things about how the universe and life came into existence.

November 15, 2023 - The Bible does not mention dinosaurs by name. However, several passages could be interpreted to refer to them. One such passage is Genesis 1:24, which says: "And God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.'" This verse could be interpreted to include dinosaurs, as they were living creatures that roamed the earth during the Mesozoic Era.
