I've always viewed shopvacs as emergency devices when there is a water problem. Everyday use the 4 hp is fine and you save some $$$. But when shtf and you're sucking up water you will wish you bought the 6 hp. Decision decisions! Best made by you for you! How likely is this PC of equipment going to be saving your property some day?? Answer from Brave-Conflict-5653 on reddit.com

Need a shop vac for everyday wet and dry vacuuming. Most are 4 horsepower and wanted to know if that's enough power or if I should go for the 6 hp?

That's a peak HP rating anyways. Pick the size you need for the job you want it to do. Some of my favorites are the small craftsman silver can. The rigid 14 gallon 6hp SNR and the cordless Milwaukee toolbox vacuum.

September 23, 2018 - Supposedly cylindrical vacuums work better and keep their air filters cleaner longer due to vortex effects, blah blah, but based on my experience, the smaller square Ridgid vac seems to perform on par with the full size ones, you just have to clean them more often. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-4-5-gal-5-0-Peak-HP-Pro-Pack-Wet-Dry-Vac-WD4522/100638389
