CMV: The only likely end to the conflict is for Gaza to be wiped out entirely.
Since nobody seemed to read the actual post where OP said This is NOT a discussion of the morality and bothered trying to change their view, I'll chime in. I don’t think Gaza’s total destruction is the only likely outcome—just the most extreme one. A more natural and historically consistent outcome is that, over time, the Palestinian population adapts. Romantic arguments about “you can’t kill an idea” make for great slogans, but history shows people abandon causes when the costs become generationally unsustainable. Eventually—maybe after a couple more cycles of war and displacement—the dominant will likely shift from resistance to survival. That could mean accepting a much smaller, weaker, and more fragmented version of a state—far worse than what was on the table in 1948, 1967, Oslo, 2005, or 2008. Not because it's fair, but because it’s what’s left. More on reddit.com

CMV: What's happening in Gaza is potentially a war crime but isn't genocide
Your premise is that it definitionally requires mass killing. This is not true. Raphael Lemkin, who literally invented the word "genocide" in 1944 defined it this way: New conceptions require new terms. By "genocide" we mean the destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group. This new word, coined by the author to denote an old practice in its modern development, is made from the ancient Greek word genos (race, tribe) and the Latin cide (killing), thus corresponding in its formation to such words as tyrannicide, homicide, infanticide, etc. Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. *The objectives of such a plan would be disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups. Genocide is directed against the national group as an entity, and the actions involved are directed against individuals, not in their individual capacity, but as members of the national group." Collective punishment designed to destroy the identity, health, security, liberty, culture, and dignity of a people is absolutely genocide. You notice, although mass killing is often a major component of genocide, it isn't a required component to meet the definition. More on reddit.com

Do you feel pain for what is happening in Gaza? I'd like to learn your perspective
Do YOU feel pain for what Muslims are doing in Sudan where muslims are slaughtering non-Muslims, including babies? Do YOU feel pain for what Muslims are doing in Somalia where they are recruiting child soldiers and mutilate the genitals of infant babies, even sewing up the vaginas of female children? Do YOU feel pain for the atrocities committed by Muslims against other Muslims in Yemen? Do you feel pain for the femsle children of Afghanistan? Did YOU feel pain on October 7th for the Israeli babies that were dismembered, put in ovens, watchef their parents be murdered in front of their eyes and were burned to death in their houses? What is happening in Gaza is horrific. Israel needs to do better. But they did not start this war. And hamas, the leadership of Gaza that enjoys widespread support from the parents of all of these babies, celebrates the death of their children for political gain. Yes, it is painful to see wounded and dead children and watch their parents wail in agony, But not just in Gaza. In Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen and every other place on earth where Muslims can't seem to get along with their neighbors. Do YOU feel pain about how much death is caused BY Muslims to children, or is it just at the hands of non-muslims, especially the Jews? I see a lot of outrage about the violence done TO Muslims by non-muslims, but never to Muslims by OTHER Muslims, or BY Muslims TO non-muslims. OP, why is that? More on reddit.com
